Transparent, golden trending slightly toward amber. Quickly disappearing head. Has the same slight funk of beers like Heineken and Peroni, with a touch of sweetness (I think from added sugars). Drinks easily with a little more hoppiness than your average light beer, but not much in terms of taste. Feels a little flat and watery, despite the carbonation.

Overall, a decent volume beer with low ABV, but nothing to seek out.

Bottle, in southern Europe. Well, if the ordinary Amstel isn't bland enough for you... God bless!....... Drinkable just because it is wet and cold. At least the ordinary Amstel Lager is somewhat better.

Is there a Light Beer that tastes good? Next to try is Amstel. The pour from two brown 12 oz. bottles into a clear glass liter mug isn’t promising. The beer is almost crystal clear with a hue of bright amber. There's no head, nor lacing to mention. The smell started a little skunky that's the norm for many a European lager, then drifts to bread-like sweetness. There is ample carbonation. The taste is lightly sweet, with just a little hoppiness to the finish. It isn’t much, but it does make the initial sweetness more tolerable. Unfortunately, the body and mouthfeel are like water. A little tastier than some Light Beers it is, but still unsatisfying.

Need an evening starter? Well take notes. Ask the bartender for a Deer and Beer and make sure its an Amstel Light. What better combo than a 3.5% beer to go along with your jagermeister shot to ensure you will kickstart your night without overdoing it. Amstel Light actually has more color to it than many light beers, leaning more to a amber than the transparent golden liquid of most light beers. Taste-wise you get that classic euro-skunk taste followed by a malty breaded taste that is missing from most corn juice tasting light beers. Not much of a smell to it, just a classic beery smell, but boy does it go down. The perfect companion to the stag labeled green bottle liquor.

This one hit me well and good like Agassi serving an ace and nailing a line judge in the junk. Nothing special, but it did the trick like the first time I saw Miranda Kerr in a Victoria’s Secret catalogue.

Ok, I’m outta here.

Has that skunkiness get from a lot of European Light Beers. a heavy bread after taste almost feels like ya ate a few slices pf cheap white bread. Slightly dry mouth feel. an ok beer. I would not go out of my way to drink again. Drink Cold does not taste good when just slightly chill.

I am very disappointed that Beer Advocate gave this beer a Score of 59. Well it deserves a better score than that more like an average or a overall score of 90. Just my thoughts.

12 oz can condition - 6 pack - product of parent company Heineken. BA notes are incorrect as this is the 3.5 abv% product that has been out for 4 years now.

Pours a light straw gold with aggressive carbonation in its appearance lending to a quickly dissipating white head. Mild lacing is retained.

Smells of white bread and light hops, not a bad aroma.

Taste is a mix of sweet balanced malt, no discernable water in the flavor, tasting notes include - malt in the front, a mix of carbonation in the mids really hits the front of the tongue, and sweet hoppy malt in the rear. Overall cracker notes and fruity hops are found in the taste.

Mouthfeel is refreshing, though the sweetness and hops linger on a bit it is pleasurable and easily drinkable. 150 years ago this would have been considered 'table beir' and not the aforementioned "LIGHT" titling.

Maybe one of the best Light Beers you can get.
Starting with the looks. poured into a Tulip glass, Bright and clear appearance. larger bubbles stick to the side while small champagne bubbles drift to the top. Beautiful Pilsner Color. Yellowish Golden. Minimal to no cap until swirled, Resulting in a thin head. Lacing is nice as it sticks to the glass. Moving along to Smell. The aroma is typical pilsner eske. Rich Malty Euro lager smell, herbal somewhat buttery and roasted nutty aroma. Now talking about taste. This is where the rubber meets the road. First impression I get is Clean Water. Subdued character with no Malt sweetness. As the flavor builds, you get a light pilsner malt. A little old fashioned bread, Buttery, lightly roasted herbal quality. the finish is a kiss of hops. Very clean with a slight woody undertone. Throughout the beer, there is a constant reminder this is a light beer. everything is toned down and muted. As for feel. Very thin, watery and not silky or creamy. I'v found this to be a theme with some european lagers. So not really a point of contention. Overall, Good, Enjoyable Light Beer. There is always a time and place for any beer. I imagine this beer would make a great companion with some deli finger food.

Bought in Bahrain for lack of a better selection. Drank from the can.

The beer tastes malty and is highly carbonated. Not much bitterness in there aside from the typical light pilsnery taste in the finish. Forgettable, yet still satisfying after a day out walking the streets here in Bahrain. I suppose it's done its job then...

(12 oz can from Holland, code 6340528A1302; purchased cold single can by chance... poured into 14 oz mug)

L: polished-clear, pale gold liquid; inflated head on pour, fizzles out in short time, messy cap/collar clings for a bit... absolutely no lace

S: sweet corn, cereal malt, mild toasty/baked golden tone; overall relatively potent

T: washed-out, fuzzy malt base; pithy, lightly metallic back-end tinge; mild residual (carbonic) bitterness and grassy grain aftertaste... the carbonation and perhaps inherit hopping provide a surprising (and delightful) degree of bitterness

F: soft fizzy edges, light but pillowy body... smooth and satisfying, but it needs to be colder for ultimate refreshment

O: glad I scored a cold single, though I would've eventually bought a sixer for the review... a beer I had maybe a handful of times in high school, and thought it was a decent swill at the time... doesn't taste too different from a glass, but there isn't much going on anyway... one of the lighter of the bunch; doesn't quite taste like the domestic cretins... still a poke after all these years (1527)

clear straw, thin white head, shit retention and lace
light, sweet grainy malt aroma
grainy malt, a bit of spicy hops, watery
Thin body, a bit more carbonation would make it zippier
I suppose it would be fine to drink a few on a hot day if someone else bought it

Putrid in virtually all respects. In many ways even worse than Coors Light or Bud Light, if not for the fact that the Dutch should know better than to create something like this

A fine example of the style. More body and taste than the major macro light beers, has a slightly bitter finish. Haven't tried it in a while, but I remember the price point was higher than the other big macro lights. Would drink it again, but I would not search it out.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass; bottled on 9/11/2018, best before 9/2019. Pours crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a lightly amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light corn, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. A bit of fruity/skunky aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light corn, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light corn, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no fruity/yeasty notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3.5%. Overall this is a good light lager. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Flavorful and not too watery for the ABV. Nice pils malt/grain showcase, with great earthy hop presence/balance for the style. Mild on the corn/adjunct presence. A nicely enjoyable offering, and well made style example all around.

12 Oz Bottle poured into glass
Look - fairly typical of light beers...yellow straw color and mostly clear. Medium foam head and good glass lacing.
Smell - That Euro grassy hop aroma. Mineral water and buttered bread.
Taste - Bread. Malt and mineral water. Grassy hops in the finish. Not as watery as some American light beers such as Mich Ultra. Carbonation is medium, which is nice, not burping too much. Extremely drinkable. Clean, smooth finish.

This is excellent for the style. The flavor profile is best in class compared to other light beers, It's essentially a Euro lager just slightly lighter in body. I do think its too expensive in general, but i was impressed and will look for it again in the future when i want to have less calories. Grade is an A-

Clear light-golden pour with half-inch of white foam that fades to a ring quickly. Smell is not actually awful - sweet malt and grassy notes with a slight metallic tinge. Flavor is minimal - very barely detectable but same notes as the nose. Finish is weak too, and with a mild earthy bitter. Lightest beer I've had in many years, but someone left them from a holiday party so why not try one?!

F: highly effervescent and the body is very light

One of my favorites. Refreshing light beer that’s inoffensive and easy to drink. The only thing I don’t care for is the price point. About 7.99 for a six pack around here. Shouldn’t be so high. Cheers.

From notes taken 07/04/17:

Straw gold, extra pale, clear, bubbly. Fluffy, smooth, hilly head of bright perhaps slightly off-white foam. Fairly tall but weak retention. Aromas of grain, honey, faint floral and metallic hops, with a hint of lemon and cucumber. Palate is much more subdued, just a mellow grassy grainy flavor, barely any honey or fruit, besides again some semblance of cucumber. Following is a standard lower tier “Pilsner” or Pale bitterness. Imagine a slightly less sweet Miller High Life, or slightly less robust Miller Genuine Draft. Refreshing as can be though on this hot Fourth of July, even as it approaches midnight. Light-bodied, active carbonation that is fine, spritzy, and sharp.

Disappointing as I remember a time I enjoyed this beer more when I was younger. Pale yellow color, no real lingering head or lacing. Smells slighty funky, mainly grain and corn. Tastes of corn, grain, malt, biscuit. Slight hints of that metallic taste I think of with these kinds of light lagers. Slightly bitter finish, no real mouthfeel, mild carbonation.

There is an Italian restaurant I frequent with a great wine selection. Their beer selection....not so much. Feeling like a beer and for lack of better options, I chose Amstel.
Pours a crystal clear straw color. A tiny wisp of head dissipates within seconds.
Clean aroma with hints of grain and sweet corn adjuncts.
The taste is similarly clean, with a light sweetness, bready malt, and light bitterness.
Light bodied, crisp and dry enough fur easy drinkability.
It’s not that bad. It’s basically watery and inoffensive. However, I don’t see myself having it again anytime soon.
