Very good beer. It’s hot on the porch and this is hitting the spot. Fantastic flavor and refreshing. Also low alcohol so I’m not getting too drunk. I wish it was less expensive though.

A fine example of the style. More body and taste than the major macro light beers, has a slightly bitter finish. Haven't tried it in a while, but I remember the price point was higher than the other big macro lights. Would drink it again, but I would not search it out.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass; bottled on 9/11/2018, best before 9/2019. Pours crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a lightly amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light corn, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. A bit of fruity/skunky aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light corn, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light corn, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no fruity/yeasty notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3.5%. Overall this is a good light lager. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Flavorful and not too watery for the ABV. Nice pils malt/grain showcase, with great earthy hop presence/balance for the style. Mild on the corn/adjunct presence. A nicely enjoyable offering, and well made style example all around.

12 Oz Bottle poured into glass
Look - fairly typical of light beers...yellow straw color and mostly clear. Medium foam head and good glass lacing.
Smell - That Euro grassy hop aroma. Mineral water and buttered bread.
Taste - Bread. Malt and mineral water. Grassy hops in the finish. Not as watery as some American light beers such as Mich Ultra. Carbonation is medium, which is nice, not burping too much. Extremely drinkable. Clean, smooth finish.

This is excellent for the style. The flavor profile is best in class compared to other light beers, It's essentially a Euro lager just slightly lighter in body. I do think its too expensive in general, but i was impressed and will look for it again in the future when i want to have less calories. Grade is an A-

Clear light-golden pour with half-inch of white foam that fades to a ring quickly. Smell is not actually awful - sweet malt and grassy notes with a slight metallic tinge. Flavor is minimal - very barely detectable but same notes as the nose. Finish is weak too, and with a mild earthy bitter. Lightest beer I've had in many years, but someone left them from a holiday party so why not try one?!

Drank right from bottle. Bought at a hotel and drank in the room with some Pork Lo Mein. Watery in flavor and feel, with some resemblancyof vegetal matter and an unpleasantly-off bitter finish. This beer is shit.

I drove all the way here and all you have for me is light beer! I like it and it once again a welcome break from all the overwhelming variety of craft brews! Still not as good as Hamm's though!

L: bright straw gold permeated by streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 1" frothy white cap with fair to poor retention

S: has an almost pungent earthy hop smell that approaches skunky

T: flavors are low, featuring a light grainy sweetness, very light green apple and hints of fruit and traces of spicy hop flavor

F: highly effervescent and the body is very light

O: light and thirst quenching but is very low on flavor and character

One of my favorites. Refreshing light beer that’s inoffensive and easy to drink. The only thing I don’t care for is the price point. About 7.99 for a six pack around here. Shouldn’t be so high. Cheers.

From notes taken 07/04/17:

Straw gold, extra pale, clear, bubbly. Fluffy, smooth, hilly head of bright perhaps slightly off-white foam. Fairly tall but weak retention. Aromas of grain, honey, faint floral and metallic hops, with a hint of lemon and cucumber. Palate is much more subdued, just a mellow grassy grainy flavor, barely any honey or fruit, besides again some semblance of cucumber. Following is a standard lower tier “Pilsner” or Pale bitterness. Imagine a slightly less sweet Miller High Life, or slightly less robust Miller Genuine Draft. Refreshing as can be though on this hot Fourth of July, even as it approaches midnight. Light-bodied, active carbonation that is fine, spritzy, and sharp.

Pours a typical light beer color, with a soapy white head, and a decent amount of carbonation. There is no lacing left on the glass. This is just an over priced Euro light beer and nothing special. I personally do not like light beer.

Disappointing as I remember a time I enjoyed this beer more when I was younger. Pale yellow color, no real lingering head or lacing. Smells slighty funky, mainly grain and corn. Tastes of corn, grain, malt, biscuit. Slight hints of that metallic taste I think of with these kinds of light lagers. Slightly bitter finish, no real mouthfeel, mild carbonation.

There is an Italian restaurant I frequent with a great wine selection. Their beer selection....not so much. Feeling like a beer and for lack of better options, I chose Amstel.
Pours a crystal clear straw color. A tiny wisp of head dissipates within seconds.
Clean aroma with hints of grain and sweet corn adjuncts.
The taste is similarly clean, with a light sweetness, bready malt, and light bitterness.
Light bodied, crisp and dry enough fur easy drinkability.
It’s not that bad. It’s basically watery and inoffensive. However, I don’t see myself having it again anytime soon.

I kind of don't understand why this beer is too underestimated here but it is quite clean and refreshing which would be good for starting in nightclubs or bars.

Pours light straw with fluffy white head.
The aroma is light grain with a bit of skunkiness.
It's just not a good beer, it's got that mild grainy sweetness with a very light bitterness, it would be a good example of the style if it weren't skunked.
It's a watery beer, but this style is supposed to be watery.
Overall don't buy this beer, it's bad even by light lager standards.

12oz bottle with no discernible dating poured into a pils glass at fridge temp. No ABV indicated on label. The beer pours a bright light straw yellow and yields about an inch of white head. The head recedes to a film and slightly thicker ring around the glass. Aroma is very subdued revealing only a hint of light malt. Taste is almost nothing on the front end transitioning to a nasty, slightly bitter and tangy finish. I could be wrong, but I believe it's a seltzer water taste from the carbonation and there's not enough malt to cover it up. Mouthfeel is water thin, lowly carbonated and dry. Overall, poor. Michelob Ultra is a far better choice if you're watching carbs this close.

Backlog. 12 oz bottle. Smells of cheap grain, cardboard. Pours no head, terrible lacing. Tastes just like the aroma. Nothing truly offensive here. It’s just an extremely boring beer. Tastes like your average American macro lager; has no European distinction--odd, I wasn’t expecting that.

Pours a light dehydrated golden color. Watery in appearance. Thinnish white head dissipates steadily leaving no residual foam. Bit of a slick on top of the beer.

Smell is so subtle its almost non-existent. A touch of skunk, some grain, maybe some gentle hops, but mostly a subtle skunk and grain come through.

Taste is very watery with almost no flavor whatsoever. Some grass, corn, grain, come through. Mild bitterness is noted, but not very noticeable.

Feel is very carbonated, refreshing, but in the same way carbonated water is refreshing.

Overall this is a poor example of a light lager. Watery and flavorless. Anything else would be better than this.

This beer definitely is on the higher end of light beer, this has a somewhat darker color compared to most light beers, it has a light malt scent. The malt flavor seems to follow throughout the beer with a highly carbonated finish with a hint of european hops.

A fine 4.1% ABV beer. Better than Bud Light. Sometimes has skunky smell. It taste better from a can I haven't had this on draught.

I thought this was 3.5% beer but actually is a 4.1% ABV

Tried a 6-pack of these. Heard about this beer and have known about it for awhile and had to try it, supposedly this is the beer that is recommended for beer drinkers that want a light beer. Overall, it reminded me of a much better tasting version of Bud Select-- the feel was light of course, but I could actually taste hops in this one along with grass and corn. Feel was good, not overcarbonated and has a clean finish. I will say that this beer is not bad at all, and would not be a problem to drink another one in the future.

I do have a couple of issues with this beer however. For starters, this beer is priced like a good quality craft beer-- if the price was more in line with, say the Bud/Coors/Miller line of beers, I'd consider it when I want to drink a light beer. $9.99 a 6 pack is a little steep for light beer IMO.

A second issue is that the alcohol level is only 3.5%, not the typical 4%+ of other light beers. The way I see it, there are 3 reasons to drink this beer, 1)refreshment, 2)to manage calories in a diet, or 3) to get drunk. So, it is only 100 calories which is in line with other light beers, and has a very good taste, so reasons 1 and 2 are upheld-- but if someone is looking at reason #3 to drink this beer, they will be disappointed and are better off going with other mass-produced light beers.

In my opinion, Amstel Light has far more flavor than all the macro lagers out there and I'm not just talking about the light versions. When limited by poor selection this is a quite drinkable choice that goes down easily, is crisp and clean and is less likely to be skunky than many others.

I always considered Amstel to be the 'Heineken Light' before Heineken Light existed. It always has a slight hint of skunk to it in my opinion, but definitely not as strong as a Heineken or even a Stella. Looks slightly darker than Bud, Coors.etc...way more flavor too and definitely on the high end of the 'light beer' category. I do prefer an Amstel to any other light beer I've tasted...very good for its category/style.

Well chilled from a bottle, pours a pale straw color with quickly dissipating thin white head. Fairly crisp and refreshing with carbonation but with tastes of boiled corn and only very slight hops taste. Yes, it's drinkable as a beer, but it's kind of "why bother".
