In my opinion, Amstel Light has far more flavor than all the macro lagers out there and I'm not just talking about the light versions. When limited by poor selection this is a quite drinkable choice that goes down easily, is crisp and clean and is less likely to be skunky than many others.

I always considered Amstel to be the 'Heineken Light' before Heineken Light existed. It always has a slight hint of skunk to it in my opinion, but definitely not as strong as a Heineken or even a Stella. Looks slightly darker than Bud, Coors.etc...way more flavor too and definitely on the high end of the 'light beer' category. I do prefer an Amstel to any other light beer I've tasted...very good for its category/style.

Well chilled from a bottle, pours a pale straw color with quickly dissipating thin white head. Fairly crisp and refreshing with carbonation but with tastes of boiled corn and only very slight hops taste. Yes, it's drinkable as a beer, but it's kind of "why bother".

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass
A - Moderate pour produces a 2 finger head in height that is a bright white in color and light foam in appearance. The head dissipates quickly to an ultra thin lacing. The beer itself is clear with high carbonation in the form of moderately sized bubbles rising quickly toward the surface. The beer is a light straw in color. 3.5/5
S - The aroma is typical of a light lager with corn, light malt, unmalted barley, and hops that come across as grassy, herbal, and noble. The aroma is really fairly sweet with just a bit of hops to balance things out. 3.25/5
T - The flavor follows the aroma dead on with corn and light malt leading the way with their accompanying sweetness. A bit of graininess from unmalted barley shows up as well before the hops kick in feature grass and herbal notes and a very clean flavor from Noble hops. Very light lingering bitterness. Flavors are all more undertones than anything and the beer is fairly watery. 2.75/5
M - Light and crisp. Mainly a thirst quenching beer so it is very drinkable and sessionable. Somewhat drying and this dryness lingers on the palate for a bit after swallowing. 3.25/5
O - Decent offering, especially for such a light beer. Good beer to drink on an especially hot day or with really heavy food. Not a beer that I would approach for the sake of flavor and complexity. 3/5

Very light color, typical lager you find in any store. Smell is faint like soapy beer, pours clean with little head that fades fast. Taste is average, nothing special nothing great but it is easy to drink. Has a light feel and just your typical generic beer. I would say this is a better choice than other beers in the class, least it has some better taste than your typical mass market guys.
If you want average you found it.
