An epic fusion of age old Belgian tradition, American new wave brewing and the world of Scotch whisky.

Mix Tape 8 is a blend of two huge oak aged beers – half a hopped up Belgian Tripel, and half a Triple India Pale Ale. These beers have both been aged in single grain whisky barrels for close to two years and finally blended to create a beer that our head brewer Stewart Bowman can most helpfully describe as ‘fucking complex’.

From the Tripel side we get earthy, phenolic, dry qualities; from the TIPA we get apricot jam sweetness and nectarine. All these flavours are beautifully rounded off thanks to the oak, which has imparted some incredible vanilla and coconut aspects to the beer.

The label has been hand drawn by Johanna Basford.

The beer seemed more barleywine-ish than triple-ish.
Poured copper/brown beer with a ring of beige head, low retention. Smell - fruits, caramel, notes of whiskey, vinous, raisin.
Taste - rye bread, honey, licorice, dark fruits, wood, whiskey.
Very rich beer, oily and boozy, outstanding.

A - Pours a brown muddy colour but transparent, absolutely no head. Pretty disappointing on appearance.

S- Strong malt biscuit, sweet caramel malts, toffee, some dark fruit and slight citrus choppiness

T - Wow...extremely strong and sweet, loads of sweet malts including toffee, caramel, dark fruit such as figs, plums, raisins very prominent, with a nice tangy citrus finish. Alot going on there.

M - Sweet syrup like with low carbonation

O - An extremely complex beer with alot going on. Massive flavours that just explode in your mouth but just too sweet for my liking. Its more like a fine wine that you can just saviour.

Ok, so people who like barrel aged stuff will like this. It's sweet, but the carbonation is nice. It's definitely Belgian in nature, but has lots of complex flavors. It's high alcohol so it's gonna taste that way. People who have tried Brew dog and Ballest Point's collaboration beer San Diego scotch ale will like this. It's nothing like an IPA, no bitterness, no hopiness, but I like the flavor. People who like strong tasting high alcohol beers will like this. Comes in a cool box and bottle design nothing like typical Brew Dog beers. Try it once, and I don't think you will be disappointed.
