Pours black with a tan head.
Nose shows roasted malt, soft liquorice and a hint of cocoa.
Flavours include a fair bit of dry roast with further hints of cocoa and liquorice. Understated and very well-made.
Low carbonation, perfect.

Black color with one finger thick dark beige head with good retention.
Delicious aroma with lots of milky chocolate predominating and hints of coffee, vanilla and nuts. Interesting that it went away after a little while.
Flavor with relatively intense roasted notes, cola, expresso coffee, some cocoa powder, a bit of charcoal, and earthy and floral hops,
Dry aftertaste with residual roasted notes. Low to medium bitterness.
Light bordering medium body with appropriate carbonation.
Really a modern Porter (not historical), being faithful to style, do not expect the usual hoppy BrewDog, just a heavier than average for style roasted notes. I liked it anyway.

Poured into an english pint.
Opaque black beer gives 2-finger tan creamy head, moderate retention. Aroma - roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate.
Taste - full, intense, roasted, no hop ambush, smooth and velvet maltiness. Good balance, actually classics.

330ml bottle poured into a Delirium Tremens tulip

Look: Opaque and black, not unlike a full-on stout, in fact. A good inch of bubbly, tan head with good retention. Recedes only slowly and leaves behind a bit of lacing. Surprisingly thick for a porter.

Smell: Coffee, dark roasted malts, slightly burnt sugar and dark chocolate. Combine that with some woody, oak hints (the bottle claims the beer is oak-aged) and there's a heck of a lot going on even before you taste it.

Taste: Surprisingly smooth - going by the smell I was expecting something with a bit more of a hop bite, but no, this is surprisingly smooth and very malty. Plenty of dark, roasted flavours along with the coffee and chocolate vibes. Given BrewDog's propensity for 'out there' beers, this one is surprisingly subdued.

Feel: Very, very smooth. The flavours complement each other beautifully and there's a lovely mixture of malt and lingering bitterness in the finish. Maybe a bit on the heavy side for prolonged drinking, but that's not really a dealbreaker for me.

Overall: BrewDog do it again - this claimes to be an 'American Porter' and that's not a specific style that I'm familiar with. However, as porters in general go this is a mighty good one - plenty of flavour, nice balance between malt and hops and generally all-round good.

Rimming sepia foam over chocolate black - pours thicker than expected. 4
Dark roast coffee, dates, char and black grape on the nose. 4
Acidic black malts, a bit of salt, molasses, roast, a brown sugar hit, pumpkin spicy hop end. 4
Ash and orange oil finish and numbing tingly linger.
Medium (just), round, clingy, a bit sticky. 4

-- Black! Char, oily, and lean - no sweet, chocolate, or hops. Label not lying when it says there are both RIS and brown ale notes in here.

Not the best, but if this is made to be light enough but interesting enough to session, then it succeeds. 4
