Notes / Commercial Description:
Russian Doll is our latest fantastic voyage into the essence of beer. This time we've used the same malts, hops and yeast - the difference is down to the ABV.

There’s a great complexity when trying the beers side by side - the aromas & flavours from the malts differ widely as you might expect, but the hops also present differently from style to style as well.

The labels feature exclusive artwork by Esther McManus.

The colour is amber, the liquid almost clear. The low off-white head sinks down quickly leaving no lacing.

The smell is fresh and a bit malty. Floral notes, caramel and some bitterness.

The taste is fresh with a somewhat dense sweetness. Smooth notes of exotic fruits. Light body. The aftertaste got growing clean bitterness, dried exotic fruits and some old-fashioned fruit candy. The finish got light bitter-tart notes.

The carbonation is fresh with small ling-lived bubbles. The liquid is light.

I normally like those 4 % hoppy beers, but this one was too simple and light.

330ml bottle from Brewdog's online shop (£2.50):
I've never truly got high hopes for any Brewdog special release four pack since so many previous offerings have been poor or worse but this one really caught my attention when I opened the bottle, the smell from this one was superb and I was hoping that the taste would be more of the same but as it turned up it was business as usual with this one being a less than satisfactory offering. The beer did remain drinkable throughout but after the initial burst of hops and tropical fruits with the nose, the taste was a bit of a let down with the malts seeming to dominate when I'd have preferred more of the same from the aroma.
