CAP DOGCAP DOG
Notes: CAPDOG is a warped smoky black IPA brewed to imperial strength, infused with cascara - the fruit of the coffee plant. Subtly sweet, with big resin and chocolate notes, balanced by spicy and smoky flavours, CAPDOG is a curious collaboration between CAP and BrewDog.

330ml Bottle from Brewdog.com (£3.25):
This one was quite an unusual offering taste-wise, going by the look and aroma this one was a straight up black IPA but as soon as you took a drink the dark malts and coffee took over making it almost seem like a stout-IPA hybrid but a nice one at that, particularly after I gave it some time to open up a little. Another excellent Brewdog limited release, it's just a shame that it'll probably be a one-off

The colour is very dark brown, almost black (90 EBC), the liquid is clear. The finger thick head is brown and compact; it sinks slowly leaving lots of lacing.

The smell is hoppy and bitter-dry with roasted notes of coffee and liquorice. Some alcohol, rubber, and smoke.

The strong taste id roasted/burned. Sweet coffee, liquorice, cocoa and alcohol. Hints of smoke and dark chocolate. Growing bitterness. Full body. The aftertaste is bitter with some citric peels, fruity orange juice and coffee. Warming alcohol and sweet liquorice, coffee and fresh herbs. The finish got notes of cold coffee, alcohol and fresh hops.

The carbonation is strong, the many small bubbles are short lived. The liquid is thick and a bit sticky.

A thick beer full of flavours, although I would rather classify it as a hoppy American stout rather than a black IPA. Well well well...

A - Black with a Coffee foam coloured head. Tiny bit of lacing. Head dissipates medium quick to leave a coffee foam coloured cap.

S - Pine, some citrus notes, dark fruit and unroasted coffee beans

T - Starts off with some roasty and fresh coffee notes, moving onto a little bit of citrus and pine. Some coca cola, dark fruits and a little grapefruit.

M - thinner than I was expecting on the mouthfeel, medium carbonation finishes dry.
