Elvis JuiceElvis Juice
Notes: An American IPA with a bitter edge that will push your citrus tolerance to the brink and back; Elvis Juice is loaded with tart pithy grapefruit peel. This IPA has a caramel malt base, supporting a full frontal citrus overload - grapefruit peel piled on top of intense us aroma hops. Waves of crashing pine, orange and grapefruit round out this citrus infused IPA.

Malts: Cara, Extra Pale

Medium gold/light amber color. Mostly clear. Medium white head.
Smells like a freshly peeled grapefruit. The smell is so accurate it’s almost creepy.
It tastes immediately of grapefruit juice but it’s not sweet, there’s some underlying orange flavor that adds the smallest amount of sweetness. It made me want more. It has some qualities of an NEIPA but it’s not hazy and it’s not sweet. It’s very drinkable and I could see myself getting carried away with this one. Awesome

Brew-dog beers are the prime example of everything wrong with 'craft beers'. It doesn't matter which one I review 'punk ipa, grapefruit, elvis juice.... god, they all taste the same. And what is worse, there is always another ridiculous naming beer they come out with.

Every beer they make is far too strong in alcoholic content. It's way to sweet, the flavours have no subtlety and every one leaves the horrible metallic after-taste (bit like tenants really, I wonder if they make them in the same factory). And the beers are everywhere. It's sad how they've taken up shelf space in supermarkets when another beer could be there of much better quality. They clearly have gone for the mass produce 'craft beers'... But they just leave you with a headache and it's so overly designed and try-hard with the flavours it makes me feel kind of sick after I drink them. They have become the 'MacDonald's' of craft beers. You buy them in the supermarket because they're cheap, drinking them saying 'ohh not too bad' but then feel horrible after like you've drank a whole bottle of syrup. I'm drinking the Elvis Juice right now, already regretting my decision. All I can taste is an overpowering flavour, bitterness and the main issue is that metalicness taste that seems to haunt all Brewdog beers. No thanks.

can dated 4/27/21

pours a hazy amber-orange body with a frothy toasted-cream head that billows and peaks at about two fingers high and has high retention, leaving high amounts of lacing behind as it settles to a murky, thick halo

aroma is of sweetened grapefruit with a hard candy crackle and pine feel to it; floral, sweet, and earthy

the taste is rock-candied grapefruit, with an earthy Earl Grey tea-bag finish with heavy pine and a solid caramel malt backbone. insanely balanced.

mouthfeel is high carbonation and mid-level body, running smooth and billowing with a dry finish and sweetened grapefruit aftertaste tinged with earthy pine

bad. ass.
this is such a balanced and beautiful IPA that even though I've had about a decade of IPA experience, this somehow holds up enough to stand out against a horde of others in the genre. it's sweet-forward, but quickly whipped into a balanced nirvana. ugh. this needs more distribution...

Purchased as a 16oz can from Marathon for $2.99. Poured into a nonic pint glass.

L - Deep bronze with a lofty three-finger beige head that retains throughout the session.
S - Bright and juicy grapefruit is super upfront. Little bit of pine tar, and a little bit of honey. The grapefruit really does smell amazing, though.
T - A burst of grapefruit peel and blood orange evolves slowly into a light floral and pine. On the sweeter side, but incredibly well-balanced. Little bit of an English "Lady Grey" tea note to it, but in a very light way. Grapefruit and lemongrass finish.
F - Crisp, juicy, and refreshing. Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Very easy to drink; didn't even realize it was 6.5% until I looked at the label!
O - A very well-done IPA! This beer is seriously refreshing and fun, and raises the bar for all other beers of the style. Despite relying heavily on the grapefruit added to the beer, it works wonders and compliments everything very well. Fairly priced, too. I would consider this as a must-try beer if you have the chance, and I will definitely buy it again!

330ml Can from Brewdog DogHouse, Glasgow:
A fairly average offering & is far from Brewdog's best, although it was a lot better than Magic Rock's High Wire Grapefruit that I'd had just before this. There was an okay mix of grapefruit & tropical fruits with some pine & citrus but the balance didn't seem quite right; it was overdone slightly when compared to a regular American IPA, I thought. It wasn't a bad offering by any means but I was hoping for something better given that it is the third incarnation of the beer from Brewdog. Average & fairly forgettable, hopefully it's not a regular offering from the brewery; at least not without some further improvements to it.

12oz can purchased from the fridge as part of a mix-a-six pack for $11.99. Canned on 1/25/21, so this is just over 4 months old.

Look: Pours a pretty amber color without any haze. The head was frothy and beige in color, and receded pretty quickly to a very thin head remaining with evidence of nice lacing. Lots of tiny bubbles rising up the glass.

Smell: Right off the bat, this smells like grapefruit juice and peel. It smells more like pink grapefruit to me, but that may or may not be true. Doesn't smell like a sweet beer, but the grapefruit aroma is sweet-swelling and reminiscent of hard candies. Not much else on the nose. It smells inviting and refreshing.

Taste: Up front, there's a bit of sweetness - the caramel malt expresses its presence and the initial perception of the citrusy grapefruit is with sweet notes. The beer finishes with grapefruit peel character, pithy bitterness, pine, and more caramel malt. I like the combination of the caramel malt and the grapefruit; those two elements balance each other well.

Feel: The beer is a bit thin in terms of mouthfeel, which does makes for a refreshing crusher. The overall final mouthfeel is that there are a lot of drying, bitter elements from the hops and grapefruit peel, and there is a strong sweet element from the caramel malt so my mouth feels both cloying sweetness and dry bitterness.

Overall: I like this, I just wish that this had a bit more impact and complexity. I also wouldn't mind a bit of tartness. I'll still look to try it again and consume a fresher one. I'm also curious why it says on the can "Malt beverage with natural flavors"...when do we call a drink a malt beverage and when do we call it a beer? This has plenty of hops in it, so why isn't it a "beer with natural flavors"? I also question why they even need to add natural flavors here; if it's infused with grapefruit peel, then why do they also need to add natural flavors?

Pours an amber color with a short lived dirty white head which turns to lacing. Tropical fruit, pine, floral and hop notes on the nose. But magically all those notes combine to give a bubblegum aroma. The taste of grapefruit hits you upfront but quickly leaves a light and mild bitterness which dissipates at the finish. Tbh- this ones overrated.

Slightly hazy medium golden with a decent white head makes for an ok look here. Interesting nose with grapefruit and pine trees in there. This has a sort of non ipa fruit flavor with a bitter ipa ending. It’s almost like the start of sweet grapefruit tea with the bite on the end. Thinner feel with less
carbonation. This is ok...

S: Grapefruit juice, and apricot.

T: Taste follows aroma. Nice sweet stone fruit flavor with grapefruit overtones throughout. Kinda like an alcoholic fresca.

M: Medium bod, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.

O: Overall a little simplistic on the flavor, but that flavor is solid.

12oz can

Typical IPA in look. Smell leans into pine, as well as tart berries, like lingonberries. That's a unique hop flavor. Very juicy.

Maybe the best American IPA I've had outside of the USA, but that's not saying much

Got this beer in my xmas 6-pak this year.
Poured from a 12oz can into a pilsner glass.
Single finger head poured with decent lacing left on the glass.
Color is amber and translucent.
Taste is all citrus/ grapefruit and not much else.
Mouthfeel is tangy and crisp up front with a bit of smoothness in the end.
Overall, this is an infused beer that is all grapefruit in aroma and taste. Not bad but I would not go out of my way to seek this one out again.

Poured a 12-oz can, canned on 11/19/20, into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Nice head subsides fairly soon to a persistent thin fizz-film from tiny bubbles rising steadily. Color's a clear SRM 5 pale orange. Good lacing left as I drain it.
Smells like a grapefruit cocktail.
Tastes like grapefruit, too. This ale went perfectly with a venison Sauerbraten potroast, pickled red cabbage and potato pancakes. Goes well with hummus and pita toast, too.
On its own, the mouthfeel's as juicy as grapefruit juice: clear, fruity-clean, but not leaving me enough hop bitter aftertaste to satisfy my high-IBU hop hunger. I'd put a drop or two of hop oil in this to bring it where my palate feels India ales ought to go.
Still, a delicious brew for grapefruit lovers. Reminds me of a Tier de Garde ale Southern Tier brewed a while ago.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip glass.

L---Clear, light Amber color. There was a nice white head that faded down to a cap pretty quickly. Excellent lacing.

S---They advertised grapefruit and they did not lie. I'm also getting the advertised orange, but not the pine.

T---Grapefruit, orange & lemon. Some vague malts provide balance.

F---Tart from the medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel. Good carbonation

O---A damn fine IPA. I'd definitely take another.

Unsure why fruit juice belongs in beer, perhaps an answer lies in a couple of 12 oz. cans. Both are poured into a clear glass liter mug revealing a translucent copper-amber colored liquid. The unmistakable smell of grapefruit is immediately in the air. The mug is completely filled because of a generous head of tight white foam, which turns into some nice glass lacing. The best thing about the taste is it's not as overpoweringly grapefruit than the smell. There is a noticeable malt backing and hops contribute to the overall taste. The grapefruit adds a tartness that works better up front with the malt than at the finish. The tartness at the finish ends up sharing a place in the taste with mild bitterness of the hops. It's an interesting combination and not bad. The overall mouthfeel also isn't bad, until the grapefruit decides to reintroduce itself in the form of a burp. Traditionalists will prefer approaching these sensations without the fruit, as good IPAs do.

Another great offering from the BrewDog box I have on hand...

I really enjoyed this IPA. It was fruitier than most, to the nose and to the tongue. I also found it to be very drinkable, if not sessionable. BrewDog has caught my attention. I can't wait to get my hands on more of their offerings.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Appearance is a hazy golden orange, with more than a finger's worth of creamy white head, which has good retention and decent lacing.

Aroma is very lively. Pink grapefruit, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, apricot, lemon zest, orange zest, honey, graham cracker, hint of pine and grass, and all around herbal and floral.

Immediately taste the pink grapefruit, the zests, pine, and some malty notes which create a pleasantly bitter drink. Somewhat sweet also with the other fruity notes and the honey. Body is medium-light, and a little chunky.

You ain't nuttin' but a BrewDog, drinking all the time. You ain't nuttin' but a BrewDog....you get it. And Elvis Juice definitely gets it too. Warning - plenty of Elvis references incoming.

For all you Suspicious Minds - this grapefruit infused IPA pours a fairly clear amber color. A slightly off-white head lingers for a bit but gets All Shook Up after a few minutes. Good lacing remains a Good Luck Charm on the glass.

Taking a smell of a freshly poured glass makes you think A Little Less Conversation and time for a lot more action. Grapefruit and some background malts and other sweet notes (honey?) are Always On My Mind when drinking this IPA.

Elvis Juice follows the wonderful smell with a taste that stays Stuck On You. I have some serious Burning Love for these grapefruit forward IPA. I normally venture towards hoppy-er IPAs but the quality sweetness of this IPA won't leave me Crying In The Chapel.

A light carbonation and pleasant aftertaste leave your palate feeling like some Blue Suede Shoes - cool and ready for a night out on the town.

There's no Heartbreak Motel with Elvis Juice. Again, I lean towards heavier IPAs but this more fruit-focused brew is has me feeling like I Can't Help Falling In Love with it. Surrender to the flavor and buy yourself a 6-pack. Trust me Elvis Juice will stay Stuck On You.
