Woo-hoo how dark amber this is - I said when poured it into the glass. And how fruity, zesty, hoppy it smells! Can't wait to dig in!
And here we go. A nicely balanced American Red. Not too overwhelming at first, rather mild with the dry bitterness in the back. But as soon as it starts warming up, even the hops in the nose starts to change! Hops you didn't notice at the dive in. Now we are closer to an American IPA but the body is dry even though it is fully malted. Interesting! Although it is still strange how quickly it fades into a light dry body. But overall it is so good. So nice. I am enjoying this bigtime. Not too overwhelming, in a nutshell.
For last words - here are the notes from the bottle:
"Stack those quarters and prepare to paint the town red. Citrus and toffee malt on the nose is rapidly followed by an intertwined floral sweetness and subtle rye spiciness, fruity motes, and a little caramel. Sweetness ebbs to a final bitter payout. Embrace the crimson-faced one-armed rye bandit and rack 'em up.

Slot Machine - hit the jackpot every time."

660ml Bottle from Morrison's supermarket (£2.50):
This one was quite a nice American IPA that was definitely darker than expected & the rye aspect of the beer was a pleasant one as well. Initially there was some nice citrus & pine hops that kept things fresh & lively before some caramel malts & earthy flavours started to sneak in with the taste. There was a nice balance to the beer & it was well-carbonated too which helped it go down easily; a nice seasonal offering from Brewdog & one that I'd like to see again next year.

A 330ml can with a BB of Sept 2018. Purchased recently from Morrisons. The label calls it a red rye IPA; caramel malt and rye in the grist.

A: Poured into an IPA glass. Can conditioned. A deep, hazy reddish-marmalade hue with fine floating sediment and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing.

S: Aroma of resinous hops with hints of pine, weed, citrus, herbs, rich caramel malt, spicy rye, a touch of grainy sugar and ale yeast. Fantastic, and the rye certainly comes across beneath the hops.

T: Tastes of intense resinous hops with notes of pine, dank weed, citrus peel, herbs, caramel malt, spicy rye, grain, barley sugar, ale yeast and stewed hops. Quite sweet, followed by a robust hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Hop oils stimulate the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, citrus, pine, caramel malt, spicy rye and ale yeast.

O: Very nice - a solid IPA with a distinct rye character. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are stuffed with aromatic hops, pine, citrus, caramel, rye and yeast. Lovely body. In spite of the hop character, the rye comes across really well and adds depth to the malt. A superb IPA that is well worth sampling.

A limited run from Brewdog.

Pours a really dark reddish amber. Pale cream coloured head. Lovely rye spice and loads of citrus and toffee on both nose and palate. Near perfect mouthfeel for the style. Like this a lot. Cheers!
