Punk IPAPunk IPA

Brewed by:
Scotland, United Kingdom

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Welcome to a post Punk apocalyptic mother of an ale.

A beer that spent its formative years Blitzkrieg Bopping around India and the sub-continent.

This light, golden classic has been subverted with new world hops to create a devastating explosion of flavour. Steel yourself for Kalashnikov bursts of caramel, incendiary tropical fruit and an all-out riot of grapefruit, pineapple and lychee, before a spiky bitter finish.

This is quintessential Empire with an anarchic twist. Turn up the volume. Pay the man. Embrace the punked up, pimped up Maharajah of Pale Ales.

Nothing will ever be the same again.

Punk IPA | BrewDog. Poured from a can into a pint glass, the head on this brew's two fingers thick, with spotty lacing, and an opaque medium golden body.

The cracker malts and hops smell great together. Seems like I'm getting into a real treat...

Tastes like a near-perfect blend of the hops and malts going on here IMO. Just so complimentary of the various flavors.

Medium-light mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

I'll rate Punk IPA | BrewDog with an overall 4.5

Poured from 12-ounce can into a pilsner flute. Deep golden color, with a two-finger white head that leaves a bit of lacing as it subsides. This is not an in-your-face brew. Nicely balanced, it is smooth and drinkable. Lots of juicy citrus and tropical fruit complement the subtle malt sweetness. Finishes with lots of sticky citrus-zest bitterness and a little lingering fruity tartness on the tongue. Delicious, crushable, and great with pizza. Well done!

Traveling in Spain. Found it difficult to find IPAs in Barcelona. Under the heading of beggars can't be choosers, not a bad IPA all things considered.

Punk IPA brewed by BrewDog, with an ABV of 5.60% This American IPA pours out a deep golden amber color with a nice white head. There is also a decent amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell of this American IPA is bold with hop bitterness, earthy grains and malts. So far has the look and feel of most American IPA's on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. Now for the taste, it is Bold, yet smooth with flavors. You pick up on the hop bitterness, with a lot a smooth earthy grains and malts. This is a bit milder, than most American IPA's on the market. However you can taste all the flavors in this IPA. This is a well put together American IPA. There is a lot going on in Punk IPA. The body of this American IPA is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. This would be a nice drinking brew on a warm summer day or even with dinner. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. The mouth feel of Punk IPA is Bold, Hoppy, Clean , Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Punk IPA a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. BrewDog, did a real nice job with this American IPA.

From a 500ml can served almost straight from the fridge at 11 degrees Celsius (another one of those humid days where the beer gained a few degrees in no time) into a white wine glass. Best before date: 05/06/18.

Look: The beer pours a clear deep gold/amber with 3cm of dense, off-white head that dissipates into a solid cap within 2+ minutes. Good lacing and overall retention with the cap sticking around till the last sip.

Smell: Moderate strength and sharp. Hop-forward with a considerable malt backbone. Hops range from tropical fruit (pineapple, passionfruit, mango, and lychee), to floral, to herbal, fresh grassiness. The pale malts are toasty if not a little biscuity in character. Tantalizing, I can't wait to sip.

Taste: Follows the aroma with moderate strength and balance towards bitter. Prominent hops bringing up the same notes as the nose: tropical fruit, vegetal/herbal, and maybe an additional citrusy note. Again, malts play their supportive role really well. The finish is moderate in length and intensity with balance leaning towards bitter and a touch of mineral character.

Feel: Medium body with moderate carbonation. Crisp and slightly creamy with a relatively dry finish. Very light alcohol warming.

Overall: More or less an outstanding IPA with pleasant and layered hop character. A pleasure to drink – I will surely have this again. Try it if you haven't!

Description: Honey colored appearance and very clear with a tad of white foam. Smell is pine, tropical fruit, mango and melon. Nicely balanced between the pine/bitter and fruit notes. Taste is pine up front but with a danker, tropical finish. Like the smell, this was nicely balanced. Feel is smooth and less carbonation than normal with IPAs.

Overall: 4.25 (This beer is good and I would likely drink it again) Some time ago I was told that in America BrewDog's beers weren't really that great because they were produced in Scotland and became less fresh over the long shipping process. I don't know if that was really the case, but I have a BrewDog brewery across town from me now, and this IPA was pretty darn good. Not elite or outstanding, but certainly not bad or lacking in freshness. Well balanced and not overly boozy, this could almost qualify as a full flavored session IPA. In any event, this is one you can drink without reservation.

I suck at reviews but I've been trying a crazy amount of random beers. I've been looking for that next beer I would keep buying. I picked up 10 random IPA's at the LCBO in Kanata the other day and this was one of them. I have to be honest this beer is really good. It's not an explosion in your face type of beer but it's decent and easy to drink. For any of your friends that just hate when they smell that hoppyness after you crack a can this one might be a little more up their alley lol.
