Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our scene-stealing flagship is an India Pale Ale that has become a byword for craft beer rebellion; synonymous with the insurgency against mass-produced, lowest common denominator beer. Punk IPA charges the barricades to fly its colours from the ramparts – full-on, full-flavour; at full-throttle. Layered with new world hops to create an explosion of tropical fruit and an all-out riot of grapefruit, pineapple and lychee before a spiky bitter finish, this is transatlantic fusion running at the fences of lost empires. Nothing will ever be the same again.

330 ml bottle, poured in a large Abbey beer glass. Exp. 09/2018. Long time since I drank it before. Very nice!

On tap 0.5L pour at BrewDog in Berlin. Tasty IPA that reminded me of sunny California while I was on vacation in Berlin. This was the first craft IPA I had while on vacation so it was a nice departure from the traditional German beers I had been drinking. Lots of bright fruit notes, not very bitter. This reminded me of West Coast style IPA's.

This beer disappointed me. Ipa is not a style that motivates me a lot. But I like it with more character. This beer lacks character. Surely it is designed by the general public. But it leaves me very indifferent.

12 oz can, brewed at the Ohio brewery, date stamped 01/02/18. Clear golden body is capped with a thin white head that disappears quickly. Earthy, citric, and piney hop nose with some toasty malt. Toasty & nutty grain with light caramel meets bitter earthy and piney hops; some notes of tropical mango, pineapple, and melon. Medium body, lower carbonation, finishes very dry and bitter with the toasty grain lingering with some earthy hop bitterness. Surprisingly the malt profile is what gets the nod from me here, otherwise it was mediocre at best. Maybe my hopes were set too high on this one. I look forward to trying the other new Ohio brewed BrewDog beers.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 7/28/2017. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, white grape, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, white grape, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, white grape, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 5.6%. Overall this is a very good IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Nice balanced mix of juicy, vibrant, and dank/earthy hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, mild residual sweetness. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a pint glass this beer pours out a clear golden color with a thin white crown on top. It has very little hop bite and just seems way too malt forward for an IPA. Seems like it needs to be balanced out.

Mostly clear gold-amber with a lumpy, fuzzy off-white foam.

This brew is really mild overall, with biscuity graham, banana, orange blossom, and an almost wheaty overall essence.

Fairly unremarkable, but in a good way, great overall "english style" IPA. HInt of fruityness, but as someone used to NEIPAs (god I hate that term) this wasn't like a lot of the beers you get in New England, which is typical of beers from the UK.

Slightly hazy orange body with a soapy white head that fades, not a lot of lace on the glass. The nose exhibits some floral soapy notes, along with mixed tropical citrus fruits and light malt. The taste really steps it up, displaying defined fruits like pineapple, mango, agave, and orange. The malt is pretty mild but toasty, and lends a nice counter-sweetness to the bitterness the hops provide. The body is full, with a nice prickle of carbonation that adds to the intensity of the bitterness, but remains dangerously quaffable.
True to the description, this guy brought some serious fruity hop flavors as well as balance, although it's probably not as bitter as hopheads want. Very enjoy, happy man!
