Notes / Commercial Description:
What do you get if you blend Hardcore IPA and I Beat You together and then add even more dry hops?

I Hardcore You of course. This is the return, for a limited time only, of a beer which proved firm favourite with hop heads.

I Hardcore You is a 9.5% Imperial India Pale Ale. After blending these two awesome beers, the beer is then dry hopped another two times.

Clearish golden color. Nice small layer of dense white head ringing the glass with a bit of lacing left behind.

Aroma and taste are quite similar - pine, some citrus, hops and malt all share the stage nicely creating a very well balanced and drinkable beer.

The carbonation is right on and the ABV is hidden well - I could drink a couple of these without too much trouble. Very tasty - fruity, hoppy, and malty but not overly so.

The aroma and flavor profiles remind me a lot of Surly Abrasive.

Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance...

I Hardcore You | 330 ml. | 9.5% ABV | 2010

Brewer: BrewDog Ltd (collaboration w/ Mikkeller)
Style: American Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Duvel tulip

Presentation:
I like the simple, almost cartoonish bottle art.

Appearance:
Deep, primordial amber. The foam settles into stagnant pools and drifting eddies.

Aroma:
Bitter grapefruit and pungent hops oils. A hint of the potent alcohol within bites just as I pull my nose away.

Taste:
It begins with an earthy and strong herbal tone that quickly shifts into knots of deep, bitter flavors: grapefruit and hints of tropical fruit draped with herbs.

Mouthfeel:
Medium bodied. Sticky and chewy and a bit chalky at times.

Harmony:
The alcohol is well hidden, and there a no major flavor imbalances. That said, this is an absurdly bitter IIPA that I would match with very spicy food rather than drink solo.

Would I get it again?:
Maybe. Too bitter for my tastes really.

A: Pours a clear, dark amber with a tight, creamy white head.

S: Aromas of grapefruit, lemon, blood orange, fresh herbs, cedar, and pine sap are present on the nose.

T: Notes of pine, spruce, cedar, lemon, grapefruit, blood orange, cream, caramel, and fresh herbs wash across the palate. The finish is long, resinous, and bitter with notes of blood orange, lemon, pine, and cedar underscored by prickly, peppery alcohol.

M: Medium-bodied, oily, and resinous, but very smooth. Carbonation is surprisingly gentle. Alcohol presence is pronounced, but not overpowering or distracting. Very drinkable for the style.

O: This is an excellent DIPA, one that hits all of the high points of the style. I Hardcore You compares favorably to just about any American DIPA, but retains a unique, decidedly European character. All in all, it has its own personality and is worth a try for any self-respecting hophead.

my girlfriend and i liked this one a lot. it pours a rich cipper color, much darker than we expected, with a nice caramel colored head about two inches tall and leaving thick lacing on the sides of the glass. the nose is more balanced than i am used to in such a big ipa, english caramel malts are present amongst the heavy hopping. the hops are pineappley and piney in both nose and taste, especially as the beer warms up a bit. its very crisp in the finish, with a good dose of bitter left in the mouth. there is also some sweeter butterscotchy elements on the front end, but they are quickly overpowered. feel works well, its heavy for sure, full full body and a lot of alcohol than you can really feel. carbonation is moderate, and this is definitely a one beer per session kind of brew. overall a lot of flavor packed into this ipa, and in my mind mikkeller can do no wrong.

Pours amber with a decent head and sticky icky lacing

smells mostly of pine sap and grapefruit rinds. Some other tropical fruits and malt balance is also present.

Tastes much of the same, but sweet and bitter with a great balance that I did not expect. the tropical fruit and malt base more evident in the taste. Much heavier on the malt profile than I thought but it works for me.. Still very hoppy and sticky on the tongue. It goes down with a slight and pleasing warmth towards the end.

M/D -Sticky and chewy, heavier than most DIPA's but still very drinkable and one that I would get again.

I Hardcore You is a collaborative effort between BrewDog's Hardcore IPA and Mikkeller's I Beat You. After the blending, the beer was then dry hopped another couple times. Which makes it VERY hopped up! I enjoyed it and hope that you'll be able to get it fairly fresh.

Toasted orange peel with bright Sunkist edges and a lovely looking lid that is equal parts pastel gold and ecru. The foam is whipped cream creamy, lasts an impressively looong time, and eventually graces the glass with tattered sheets of lace.

The nose features caramel malt and American citric hops that are especially orange juicy. Gotta be Amarillo at least... along with Simcoe and several of the 'C' hops. More pungent would have been great, but then there's no accounting for how long it took this bottle to make it across the Atlantic.

This collaborative American-style Double IPA is a mixture of Mikkeller I Beat You (never had it) and Brewdog Hardcore IPA (had it, didn't love it). It's pretty good big beer that isn't stingy with the little green cones, which is what this style is, or should be, all about.

A more pale malt bill would have allowed the hop flavor to shine more brightly. Toasted bread, caramel, tea leaves, citrus zest and a wee splash of Absolut comprise a flavor profile that is improving just enough with warming to achieve the higher of the two considered scores.

Even though it isn't quite special enough for the 4.5, mouthfeel might be this ale's finest feature. It's at least medium-full for the style/ABV and the laid back bubbles keep the drinkin' easy.

Either my reviewed bottle of Hardcore IPA was past its prime or Mikkeller I Beat You is such outstanding beer that it pulled the BrewDog offering all the way up to good beer status. This stuff is undoubtedly overpriced for regular consumption, but it's definitely worthy of a single bottle purchase for hardcore hop lovers.
