Last IPA is dead Single Hop of the night...

Appearance is a clear amber, mild chill haze, decent head hangs around - a rim and whispy clouds of bubbles. Good spots of lace on my wine glass. Perhaps a tad foamier and a bit more lace than the other 3.

Citrus on the nose, orange rind, grapefruit, lemon and a good smack of pine. Solid malt background.

Initial pleasant sweetish malt up front, quickly dominated by a generous mouthful of pine and citrus. Reasonably bitter and quite peppery. Straight forward American style IPA.

Smooth with moderate carb.

Compared to the Nelson Sauvin, this is lacking in nuance and curioso factor but is still pretty good.

330ml bottle. Shaker glass. (From my notes). Light orangish amber color. Chill haze. Yellowish, medium bubbled, froth. Fairly good retention. Intense hops & citrics both in flavors & aromas. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Texture is oily but light. A very refreshing beer been missed before finish it.

Appearance - 4.5
Pours 2cm of pale cream coloured head over a hazy, blood orange body. Very good head retention and spotty lacing. Quite a beautiful looking beer, really.

Smell - 4.0
Sweet malty aromas of biscuits and burnt sugar, resiny hop character suggesting of oranges and limes. A grassy, slightly tea-like note is there also.

Taste - 4.0
Biscuity and caramelly malt backbone, moves on to citric hop flavours; bitter orange marmalade, lime, grapefruit and a definite floral character. Finishes dry with powerful bitterness, a slightly medicinal alcohol character and a suggestion of tea.

Mouthfeel - 4.0
Medium bodied and a little syrupy with lively carbonation. In my opinion, less body would better highlight the hops.

Overall - 4.0
There is nothing quite so disappointing as to open a hoppy beer and find its hop character to be diminished beyond enjoyment. The first sniff of this beer's hoppy goodness filled me with unbridled joy, such is its freshness. This said, I tend to think that a series of 40IBU new world pilsners would actually be a better platform to showcase hops. It's certainly a hoppy beer, but the character of the hop is somewhat hidden behind the richness of the malt bill and the alcohol.

330ml bottle from Slowbeer, poured into a Lost Abbey tulip.

Has an orange appearance with a white head that starts of well, looking creamy and turns into an outside ring soon after.

Beautiful huge, sweet passionfruit smell first comes out and stays for a bit then a bit grassy after that and works as a bit of a spoiler. If that grassiness wasn't there, this would be off the charts! Some agitation brings back out the passionfruit.

Taste is sweet, some citrus flavour, some grapefruit and just a touch of the passionfruit that was there in the smell, coming in late.

Mouthfeel is good, plenty of bitterness that is consistent throughout.

This is a decent beer that could be great. Absolutely loved the passionfruit smell early. Beyond that it was a solid IPA that is pretty easy to drink.

The colour is copper with a tint of orange; the liquid is a bit hazy. The three finger head is firm, warm white and airy. It leaves some lacing while very slowly sinking.

The smell is sweet and very hoppy with distinct notes of lemons, limes and grapefruit. Hints of kiwi and sweet oranges. Citric bitter flavours and exotic spices. Cat litter in the background.

The taste is very citric and sweet, reminding of orange juice with lots of new world hops. Grand bitterness, but it is not sharp or overwhelming. Some earthy notes and hints of oranges, lime and lemon. The aftertaste is bitter with a fine citric flavour, some mellow sweetness and a touch of caramel. The finish is citric.

The carbonation is medium to mild, the bubbles small. The liquid is a little sticky.

A pleasant single hop IPA.

Appearance A cloudy peach sky sits in the glass. No foam really but large globules lining the sides. The bottles’ bottom has no lees like in the Sorachi Ace’d version of this IPA.

Smell A gentle punch of elderberry, apricots and floral notes.

Taste Honey in abundance at first, then citrus and flowery notes. Rounding it up is butter and sweet flavors in harmony with balanced aroma and bitter hops.

Mouthfeel Incredible a body on this one too, big up to Brew Dog on this splendid 4-pack of IPAs. Medium body which is “sickly smooth” to quote Marcus. Carbonation perfecto!

An era or rather a 4-pack of fantastic IPAs have come to an end. It’s taken me the entire span (of a short lived) Swedish summer to go through the IPA is Dead-series. Perhaps unconsiously spaced out over time knowing I only had four dates with it.

The Citra was a beautiful ending to this series although the Nelson Sauvin is my personal favorite. Please keep sending more of the same this way Brew Dog!

Bottle purchased from Slowbeer, in person, no less—very unusual for me.

Pours a deep and hazy, slightly bronze-tinged orange, with a frothing but subsiding head of off-white. Some lacing, although it's very ambivalent—sticking like crazy in some places, and not forming at all in others. The absolute lack of head retention is a bit of a let-down, but otherwise it looks ok.

Nose is sharp and hoppy, but oddly grassy as well, almost like some chinook got caught up in its business. There's a hint of the pleasant biting citric twang, but it's muddled, and less fragrant and fresh than many other citra-heavy brews I've had.

Taste is similar, in that the bitterness comes on strongly before petering out to a clipped grass organic finish. Lingering undertones of fresh orange peel, like they should, but it's all a bit muddled and fractured.

This is a shame, really—the other two I've had in the series have been good, and I certainly prefer Citra to Bramling Cross in general (although probably not Nelson Sauvin), but I've had much better beers that put Citra to better use.

On tap at Taphouse

Pours a hazy one-finger amber, with russet hue.

Aromas of tinned mandarins.

Taste is intially soft mandarins, quite alcoholic, then some pine comes thru as it warsm.

Mouthfeel is quite smooth, gets a little sticky after a while.

Overall, sweet but good, starts to get a little cloying toward the end.
Marked down on overall, at $13 (yep, $13) a small serve, it doesn't deliver.

330ml bottle, consumed Jun 2011, BBE Feb 2012.

A - Hazy copper body with a decent, relatively loosely-bubbled head that dissipates down to wafer-thin cover and decent lacing.

S - Very pleasant citrusy, resinous pine notes with some fruity aromas.

T - Similar to the aromas, citrusy, resinous pine opening with some grapefruit type notes. Good balance of sweet and bitter.

M - Medium body, medium carbonation, smooth with a lingering balanced finish.

O - Overall, extremely pleasant one, would be nice to see this one brewed on a more regular basis.
