330ml bottle. Shaker glass. From my notes. Deep orangish amber color headed by a very close yellowish froth. Medium size bubbled, thick layer & lasting crown. Spider web on sides. Intense hoppy aromas, tropical fruit & resiny hues to the nose. Dry & sharp bitter flavor opposite to a sweet & gentle fruitness. Woody hints. Medium but flavorful body. Quite carbonated. Oily texture. Well balanced flavors & aromas. Odd beer but a big one in fact.

The colour is amber-orange, the liquid is clear. The three finger head is off-white and compact. It sinks slowly leaving lots of lacing.

The smell is bitter, sweet, hoppy and fruity with some oily flavours. Pineapples, ripe apples, kiwi fruits and kumquats. Hints of bread. The oily flavours develops into some petrol-like notes.

The taste is medium bitter with a slight lemony-sour touch. Some oily flavours (corn oil, olive oil). Fruity flavours of apricots, gape, oranges and an earthy hint of potatoes. The aftertaste is quite mild and short with fruity-earthy notes, some bitterness and alcohol.

The carbonation is mild, the small bubbles light. The liquid is a little sticky.

Well… It is an IPA with 100 % Nelson Sauvin. It’s not a very complicated beer.

Had on-tap at the Local Taphouse in Sydney.

Pours a cloudy orange-brown with a great head of waffly, speckled rocky off-white bubbling. Lace is great. Body is quite light, but otherwise it looks great.

Nose is sharp with green underripe passionfruit and tropical fruit characters, perfectly showcasing the hop variety. It's crisp, but fragrant and very potent. Awesome.

Taste is clean and crisp, with a big lingering bitterness. The palate is tempered with sweeter nutty characters which give a nice balance. Slight acidity from the hops. It's very pleasant.

Very smooth and easy to drink, but also crisp, clean, piquant and delicious. The hops give fragrant bite, but everything stays supple and connected. Very drinkable, and well balanced to the hop variety used. My favourite of the series, so far.

330ml bottle from Slowbeer and poured into a Lost Abbey tulip. BrewDog tick night, it would seem.

Pours a typical orange, as evidenced by the rest of the set of the IPA is Dead series. Has a nice off-white head of foam that subsides quickly.

Smell is of passionfruit, not as strong as the Citra version, along with some citrus and then it turns a tad harbally earthy. Late on it has a solid mango aroma.

Taste is slightly piney, some of the passionfruit is there as well. Not a lot of the white wine flavour that i've encountered with this hop variety in other brews. Still tastes OK, but disappointing, given what it could be.

Mouthfeel is not overly bitter, easy to drink, in fact it is a touch oily and drinks well under the 7.5% ABV.

Doesn't really work, should be a lot better than it was as the hop variety can produce some nice beers and a single hop beer is the ideal way to showcase that. Looks OK, Smells OK, but otherwise, it is sort of an easy drinking moderately high ABV meh tasting beer. Still with 4 months left on the BB date, this may be a lot better when a lot fresher.

Pours orange/light amber with a large, fading head.
Nose shows hefty amounts of passionfruit along with lychee and peach. Underneath is soft sweet clean malt. Very nice.
Flavours include more of the passionfruit and peach alongside resinous pine. This is followed by lots of clean sweet malt before the hops return for a bold, piny bitterness.
Great moderate carbonation, slightly syrupy body.

Quite hazy. Golden in colour with small but fluffy, off-white head and nice lacing.

Classic Nelson Sauvin aroma with lots of fresh grape and mild notes of mango and orange. It's a little straight forward and simple though and I feel as if the Nelson Sauvin isn't working all that well as a single hop.

The flavours are good with a mild malt backbone, moderately-high bitterness and mild tropical fruit flavours. The flavours of this hop just aren't shining as I've seen it do in other beers such as Mikkeller's single hop Nelson Sauvin IPA. Here the fruity hop flavours sit in the background.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation.

This is fine as an IPA but the hop flavours don't shine as well as they did in the other IPA is Dead beers.

A- light Cooper, a little hazy. Decent head. not too much lacing.

S- slight aroma of sweet vegetables, not quite fruity.

T- starts out with some hops. The beer is bitter and might overwhelm those inexperianced with IPAs. It mellows out slighty and becomes a herby.

M- well carbonated. Bitterness says on the palate.

O- this is a nice IPA when you are looking for something on the bitter side.

A: Pour is slightly hazy light copper with a tall off-white compact head that slowly sinks into decent lacings.

S: Lots and lots of floral hops; piney and citric. There's pineapple, grapefruit, lemon and lime. Semi-sweet malt in the back. Spices.

T: Sweet malt balanced with bitter, really bitter hops. The floral hops kicks in after a little while, like the smell but far from that strong. Lots of pepper.

M: Long aftertaste with a peppery dryness. Body as well as carbonation is medium. Rather smooth.

O: Not bad at all, I just had the Sorachi Ace - very different but still in style compared with the earlier beer tonight.

So this is my last bottle of this 4pack hope ive saved the best til last and the brew pours a very similar orange, amber hue to the Citra IPA but just murkier and is left with a one finger head that quickly recedes to leave a rim of lacing, the smell is very nice and beautifully NZ with hints of goosberries, passionfruits, citrus and sour lollies,it has a light-medium bodied well carbonated mouthfeel and has tastes of white grapes, goosberries, lychee, boiled candy and finished off with a passionfruit bitterness and overall this is a very enjoyable drop and i think this 4pack though not totally outstanding is very interesting and i will buy again and just hope that Brewdog decide to release these different IPA's singularly cheers.

The beer is hazy copper amber, an off-white head with very good lacing. Some curtains.

The smell is black currants, earthy and dusty, almost some stable aromas.

The taste is rather sweet, brown bread, black currant marmalade, fruity acidity, good hoppy bitterness (nettles).

Medium carbonation, slightly coarse, a good body, a very dry finish.

This is the runner up of the IPA is Dead series.

#3 of the IPA is dead for me tonight..

Appearance is a clear amber, mild chill haze, decent head hangs around - a rim and whispy clouds of bubbles. Good spots of lace on my wine glass.

Aroma is fresh: Lemon, coriander, peppers, a hint of smoke on a decent malt base

Sweet malt is well complimented by the fruity, peppery hops. This is a great education in Nelson Sauvin for me. The parallels with a dry Sauv Blanc are obvious. Fresh, fruity, very peppery. Not sweet however. Reasonable bitterness and quite dry. Lingers fruity, peppery, moreish and long.

Mouthfeel is smooth and medium light with moderate carbonation.

My fave IPA is dead so far.. Trying the Citra next.

Wow, this is one hell of an IPA. Bottle best before feb 2012. I believe i got it from Apophis666 or Zimbo. Forgot it stood in my fridge!

Poured in my Struise glass this beer is a bit cloudy with very little carbonation. Smell is pineapple, lots of it. Three fingers head.

Very drinkable beer, enjoyed it!

330mL bottle thanks to [email protected]

Glowing honey colour on the pour, cloudy amber in the glass. Huge puffy looking slightly off-white head. Flecks of lacing.

Cut grass, passionfruit, kiwi fruit, feijoa, honeydew melon and mango. Malt backbone is pretty beefy, providing plenty of candy sweetness and solidity.

Flavours follow the nose, although malts are first out of the gates and present to the point of crowding out the hop character. Noticeably sweet.

Medium in every respect with no rough edges. Pretty well perfect for what this beer seeks to do.

Big fan of Nelson Sauvin, and it is well exhibited by this brew. Only criticism is the malt bill, which is a bit too muscular for the refined hop character.

Poured from a 33cL bottle into a BrewDog cervoise glass.

A: Hazy-transparent orange, clouds of bubbles, and a finger of tight head with great retention. Sticky lace.

S: These hops are simply splendid, if difficult to describe. Pleasantly astringent (pine?) and full of fruit (grapefruit and pineapple). Sadly, this powerful scent fades somewhat with time.

T: Yummm. Light carbonation with cutting hops that ease immediately off after the initial attack. The rest of the flavour is tropical with pine lurking always in the background -- a bit weird, but tasty and bursting with flavour. The aftertaste is light and citrusy bitter. Overall, impressive.

M: IPA is Dead is solidly substantial and, if not balanced, at least throws some malts around as well. Very good.

D: Probably the *best* of the IPA is Dead series (if not my personal favourite, that honour goes to Citra). These New Zealand hops are definitely recommended.

Notes: "IPA is Dead is a one off small batch, limited edition brew. Using the same base 7.5% beer, a baby version of our Hardcore, we slam a mouth puckering 75 IBUs on top of a base of Marris Otter, Crystal Malt and Caramalt before throwing dizzying amounts of hops at these beers."

A Downs an opaque rose-hip liquid into my glass, gushing up a robust tusk-white collar, leaving lots of sticky-icky lacing clinging to the glass.

S Packed with exotic fruits, first and foremost a mango purée (the kind you feed your baby kids) like note all intertwined with some aromatic hops.

T This one is smooth, very smooth for being an IPA. No bitterness at first, there’s a small increase later on, but not much. Lots of floral and citric tastes, but also a distinctive mango presence. Also a hint of pine tree needles.

M Medium and filling, sweet little bubbles caressing my palate.

Yes yes yes! It’s that IPA time of the month again. It’s been a while since I tried Bramling X in the same series but I do remember my impression back then… and they continue like a relay race here with Nelson Sauvin, this one hell of a smooth IPA with a awesome balance through and through. My absolute favorite in the series.
