Consumed this on draft 17/12/11 at BrewDog Edinburgh.

Looked good initally. Deep black with cola edges top and bottom. Deep silky tan head dissipates to nothing fairly quickly. Pretty smoky and peaty to taste with some of these aromas hitting the nose. Very obviously an American interpretation of this Scottish beer by a Scottish brewery.
Body is watery thin with no core and no development. As much backbone as a worm. The beer just falls apart in the glass.

Thanks to dgilks.

Duvel tulip.

Pours actually an attractive black with tinges of red (maybe). Good head/lacing.

Nose is sugar crystals, minerals, toffee, fruity yeast. Some roast, wooden desk and peat.

Taste is a bit unbalanced really. Too much sugar.

Mouthfeel has too little body and thus doesn't carry the carbonation, seriously marring drinkability.

Overall the problems with body and carb really mar enjoyment of this beer on the whole.

Opaque dark, dark brown colour with a small, smooth, creamy, dark tan head. Fair head retention.

Slightly oxidised, minerally and full of sugar. Actually fairly roasty with that character dominating anything else.

A roasty, creamy Scotch Ale that lacks a bit of that big, toffeed flavour I expect of the style. Lacking fruit character with more of that lactose type sweetness coming through. Interesting but it's not exciting me.

Moderately-full body with moderate carbonation. Okay.

To me this simply lacks the complexity of character and depth that I expect of the style. The minerally roast is interesting but not as interesting as I've had in more classic examples.
