Quality brew.

Great butterscotch and booze smell, chocolate and a little smoke too.

Black pour, no head to speak of just whispy red/brown carbonation bubbles.

Super sweet, super boozy, toffee and butterscotch, malt and the slightest barrel character. Not much balance but great character.

Thin mouth feel. No slick oily feel.

I have been cellaring this for almost 4 years. Today is the day...
Deep black color with a very thin dark caramel head that vanishes quickly.
Nice aroma with notes of licorice, cola, mild whiskey, lots of dark fruits, dark chocolate, cold coffee and Port wine. Alcohol is definitely not very present in the nose.
Intense flavor with notes of cola, dark fruits, roasted malt, cocoa, licorice, lots of Port wine, a bit of peat, charred wood, some whiskey, restrained booze and vanilla. Dry aftertaste with lingering roasted, alcoholic and dark fruit notes. Bitterness is not intense.
Liquorish body with mild carbonation. Alcohol of 15% feels much lower.
Aging mellowed its hops and made it more vinous. Jura whiskey casks only gave it a complimentary flavor; it was not overly predominant. It is intense, but still very much English. I am under the impression that I liked much more the Paradox Isle of Arran version that felt more vibrant, though hard to compare given it was younger.

Given the many options of Paradox and the years that have passed, I'm going to say that Jura is the one I Had and the one listed on the "1001."

Simply amazing beer. At 15%, could hardly taste the alcohol at all. Tasted like drinking liquid chocolate. Excellent.

This beer is huge... Pours opaque obsidian with a frothy, mocha head. Smell is a mix of semi-sweet chocolate, soy sauce, tobacco and oak. Taste is ultra sweet coffee and cocoa... This beer makes my teeth hurt... So sticky and sweet - quite syrupy... This one was fun to try, but likely won't have it again. Batch 186: Drink by 8.6.22

Re-visiting this as an aged bottle

Lighter color, good head
Smell is sweet malt, chocolate and whiskey with a hint of smoke
More of the same on the palate
Feel is thinning out - not holding up

Overall a tasty beer, but too expensive, and should be aging better than this. Smoke is very nice, but the rest of the beer is turning into booze syrup..
