Also known as Voodoo Doll in Scandanavia

At BrewDog, we've decided to bring Christmas back home. To cosy nights in with good company and delicious beers. We’re not wishing for a white Christmas, we’re wishing for one as green as Simcoe. Sitting at 7.2% this festive pale ale is an ode to one of our favourite hops. May hop flakes deck the halls and carpet the streets with the tangy sweet citrus aroma of papaya and pineapple.

Thanks to my Grandmother for adding this bottle to my Christmas present.

Appearance: Hoppy Christmas pours a clear bright golden-orange colour, with a rough pour yielding a large white head. The head has an oddly course texture, but still seems to last fairly well and leave a few patches of lacing as it recedes.

Smell: As with all Brewdogs I was a little worried about the freshness of this bottle. Thankfully the nose is pretty hoppy so all seems well. Notes include: Sweet orange, pithy grapefruit, a slightly resinous character, some leafy hops, pineapple and a hint of malt.

Taste: Hoppy Christmas is certainly a citrus forward IPA, with the flavour offering some lovely sweet orange notes, grapefruit, some pith and some citrus peel. As the beer warms, a light leafy note becomes apparent alongside some sweeter tropical notes of pineapple.
There is a solid bitterness in the finish and a light dryness.

Mouthfeel: The high level of carbonation is a little too expansive for my tastes, but it settles down quickly enough to not be too obtrusive. The body is medium-light and offers a nice oily character.

Overall: Hoppy Christmas is a solid IPA and one I'd be happy to buy if there was a constant supply of fresh bottles locally.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014. Acquired recently from the Brewdog online shop. A festive pale ale - Merry Christmas!

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deep orange-amber hue with low carbonation and some faint floating sediment that looks like protein. Produces a vast head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of intensely fruity, spicy hops with notes of pine resin, weed, tropical fruit, orange peel, citrus and hay. Underpinned by sweet caramel malt and subtle yeast hints. Deliciously hoppy.

Tastes of overwhelming aromatic hops with a powerful bitter finish. Notes of pine resin, dank weed, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, tropical fruit, grass/hay, mild caramel, subtle earthiness and stewed hops. Slightly spicy, followed by an intensely hoppy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with prickly carbonation and spicy hop oils stimulating the palate. Good body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops and pine resin.

Boom - Christmas goes with a bang! While the style isn't particularly festive, this beer is a smorgasbord of hoppy goodness. Looks a little lacklustre but the aroma and flavour are stunning. An avalanche of hop notes on the palate, and a slight resemblence to Christmas trees. Nice body. A solid effort from Brewdog that'll fix your hop cravings for the new year. Well worth sampling if you come across it.
