On tap at the Sovereign into a tulip glass. Reviewed from notes dated October 18, 2016.

A-The beer looks pretty much like a Belgian Pale should look. Light yellowish gold in color with a tall (like three fingers) head of white foam. Retention is good and the head leaves chunks of lacing on the glass. Not much carbonation is visible in the hazy beer.

S-The aroma is on the hoppy end for a Belgian pale, but not quite to the level of a "Belgian IPA." I sniff flavors of straw, floral hops, and lemon. The yeast shows itself too, with nice estery notes of banana and bread dough.

T-The taste is on the dry side for the style. Hints of candied fruit and bread combine with lemony, grassy hops and a moderate dose of Belgian yeast. The overall package is more earthy than many Belgian pale ales with decent complexity.

M-The body is a bit too light for my preference and the beer tends toward watery. Carbonation is softer than average.

O-I appreciate the moderate ABV on this one and the slightly heavier hop note makes for a nice twist to the typical Belgian pale. The feel, which is usually something Belgian brewers have nailed, is a bit of a letdown here. BAs that like Belgian IPAs will probably enjoy this one.

Pours a beautiful hazy straw gold. Great dry grassy hop character. Just super dry mouthfeel. Ultimately, it's a tremendously refreshing Belgian Pale Ale, which is something De La Senne and Yvan have been killing for years. This is no exception.

A delicious beer. I wanted to have it with dinner. Too hoppy for food. de la Senne is playing to America's hophead market. I'm getting a saison to go with dinner.

2/27/17 Had again with dinner; but leftovers and the hops were OK because I wasn't sure how to season the leftovers. So, beer with herbs is just as good?

This is called a grisette. And apparently, saisons were for southern Belgian farmers and grisette was for miners. They seems similar. And it is OK to call this a Belgian pale, but a saison would be good. For those interested in knowing more about the distinction, I add this link.

On draft at The Sovereign. Yellow body, hazy, with a soapy white collar. Aromas of Belgian yeast, lemons, floral hops, cracker. The taste follows suit, finishing dry. Delicious. De la Senne strikes again.
