Amber in color. Beautiful fluffy white head, long standing in the glass.
Freshness in the smell: hop, some tea leaves. Very fresh. Some notes of an english bitter, here and there. Orange marmelade.
In the taste a very intense hop, good. Backbone malt to balance, but the master is the hop.
Average to light in body.
A very strong bitter start in the aftertaste.
Clean.
Very good beer.

Golden color with white head. Nice belgian yeast esters in the aroma. Taste goes along with a very balanced malt/hop profile. Body is quite smooth for the style but well carbonated. Nice one.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a slightly hazy, medium golden amber with a massive four finger white head with good retention and thick sheets of lacing. Aroma of mild bready malt, clove, light lemon citrus, mixed light fruit, spicy. Flavor is citrus, grapefruit rind, apple and pear juice, clove and light grassy hops. Finishes semi-dry with a mildly funky yeast that leans towards a saison style, interesting lingering grassy hop and clove bitterness. Medium bodied. A pleasant and not typical Belgian pale. Finishes drier and hoppier than its brethren. The flavors are somewhat subtle, but nicely complex. Interesting finish that I looked forward to in each sip.

Appearance- Nice golden color with a thick white head. Was a bit cloudy. Nice lacing.

Smell- Fruity with a nice smell of hops.

Taste- Had a fruity taste. Maybe hint of apples with some lemon zest perhaps.

Mouthfeel- Dry feel with bitter aftertaste. Carbonation was fairly high.

Drinkability- This beer was pretty good. A nice beer to bring to fancy parties instead of wine.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apricot, apple, white grape, bread, light honey, clove, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy/spicy yeast and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apricot, apple, white grape, bread, light honey, clove, light pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, apricot, white grape, clove, bread, light honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian pale ale! All around good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Botteled Oct 19 2004. Best till 6 months after filling so well 6 months overtime but it was most of the time in my fridge. Good presentation with nice and lasting white head and golden/bronze beercollor with some particles in it. Nose is strange and heavy straw, hops, alcohol, allmond and even after this time still some hops. Taste is phenolic, whinelike, strong for 5.5% with hints of maltyness and probably quiet some candy making this one enjoyable but quiet strange.Good and balanced mouthfeel and a pleasure to drink. Certainly worthwile trying once IMO.
