Early 2013 rating. 33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured @ Willems. Yay, very happy to find this one – thought I had missed this one. Always very glad to try more De La Senne. Apparently a colab. With Bleujacket from Washington DC. Brewed on 29/10/2012 – a Belgian Farmhouse style ale or urban farmhouse ale as the label also states. Label is in typical De La Senne style, imitating the old communist imagery style, lots of communist red, recognisable building, blue,... interesting & visually appealing and memorable like their other labels. Going by the text, warnings on the label etc. this beer is clearly meant for export. Pours a hazy grain golden with a firm, creamy white head. Nose is very bitter, farmyard, bitter hay, spices, very EU hop bitter plus citrus hops, some hay, light funk below the strong hops, some juicy lemon,... Very EU hop bitter plus citrus hops (USA maybe?) - EU clearly dominates here, bitter hay, light barnyard, lasting spice bitter, white pepper, peppery saison yeast, grass, light creamy sweetness underneath the strong bitterness, light sweet grains,... man this is one – clearly in BE style bitter brew. Bit much to take in but really works in here,... quite a De La Senne profile. Reasonable carb. some creaminess to it. Neat ... commerad.

Pour is hazed amber with tons of fluffy white head that linger forever. Nose has a ton of dusty brett and hints of dry leather with a nice fruity punch of lemon juice and notes of clove. Taste is bright, a touch sweeter than the nose with less of the dusty brett, still there with the dry leather. Body is incredibly smooth, nicely carbed, lemon juice, spiced with clove, clean finish.

A - Hazy yellow straw, orange color with a few finger head and thick bubbly lace.

S - Earthy, musty, yeasty notes, fresh squeezed lemon, peppercorns, flora, grassy.

T - Wheat or pale malt with a good amount of sweetness. Grassy hops, earthy and musty, quite yeasty, light pepper spice, dries out on the finish with some floral hop bitterness.

M - Medium mouthfeel that starts heavy and then lightens up as it dries out in the finish.

D - Good saison with a wonderful aroma. Starts to feel a little heavy from the sweetness halfway through.

Bottle from Churchkey in D.C.

The beer is yellow and hazy with a small, white head. The aroma brings grass, citrus, lemon, coriander, floral hops. The flavor brings a healthy hop presence followed by some pine and yeast. Mild lemon tartness with a bold and bitter finish. Really tasty and refreshing. Quite tasty.

Pours a slightly orange-ish yellow, right about the color of my desk, which is a light pine color. The beer is quite cloudy. Very large white head. Massive chunks of foam stick to the sides of the glass. It almost looks like whipped cream. The aroma is an excellent mix of saison flavors. There's a nice, earthy yeast note. Peppercorns, lemons, fresh grain, grassy hops. Lots of good stuff, all working together well. Some mild fruitiness, mostly apricots and plums. The taste starts with wonderfully fresh pale malt sweetness, which hangs about but is eclipsed by that earthy yeast and light grassy hop bitterness. Lots of yeasty spiciness bouncing around. More hops than are apparent in the aroma. It feels quite clean in the finish. As the beer dries out, the pepper and grassy hops linger in the aftertaste. Very pleasant flavor that makes you want to keep going back for more. The mouthfeel starts out a bit prickly. It's quite light on the palate but the beer has a round, full flavor. Very refreshing. Excellent beer. I wish that saison brewers would focus on this approximate strength. This beer shows that there's no need to make a saison strong to pack it with good flavor.
