6/6/17 (Chicago). 16 oz (Best by 8/26/16 date) can poured into large flute glass. Dark amber pour, generous white head, ample carbonation. Pleasant pine, citrus and hops aroma. Nice balance between bitter hops and sweat citrus taste. Light texture, decent carbonation. Overall good offering.

I bought this off the single shelf at Binnys. It poured a clear copper with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent is pine and bitter citrus. The taste is nicely balanced and easy to drink for an ipa. There is bitter citrus through. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber, with a huge head of off-white suds. Tons of ornate, lovely lace.

Aroma: Crisp tropical hops — citrus and floral. Very very nice!

Taste: Big tropical fruitiness with notes of pine, floral, and a bitter finish. A positively excellent IPA and one I’d love to have again.

Pours a slightly hazy medium amber color with white head. Citrus, pine, and some grassy notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with a nice combination of pine and citrus.

I don’t buy enough Tallgrass. With so many stouts seen & consumed lately, I felt the need for something new & hoppy. Here it is! This 16 oz. can w/3/9/17 best by date, into a snifter.

Dark orange, not quite opaque, but not clouded, either. Fizzier than Shasta; even my big old tulip takes two pours to get beer & head in. For al the hop talk, the aroma is muted. Evergreens, oranges, Bottle Caps candies.

Top Rope IPA reminds me of my tennis-playing days…though I have no idea why we chose to nickname each other after wrestlers (I didn’t even watch that stupidity). Brillo Pad bitterness scrubs the palate, with an encore of sappy pine, cascades of caramel malts, grapefruit, orange cream soda. Ends with a slightly spicy floral kick. Earthier as it warms. Soft. With so many IIIIIPAs on the market these days, this feels like going back to drinking Bud Light.

One of those ‘kitchen sink’ beers that almost works, but all the complexity isn’t working together, & that malt backbone belongs in a T-Rex. Still, good, solid beer.

Pours a very cloudy dark amber color with a thick foamy head. Head retention and lacing are both very good. Not used to IPAs being so cloudy. Very malty aroma. There is some pine and hints of citrus. Somewhat sweet. Malt bomb with a good amount of bitter resin and slight citrus taste at then end. Bitter throughout and with aftertaste. There is some smooth caramel at the end. Somewhat astringent. Good transition from malts to hops, though. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not bad but would not buy it again, unless it was the only choice.

Served from the tall boy can into an oversized Surly tulip glass. Emerges a dark burnt orange color with a great, stiff white head. Tons of lacing and the heads remains full for quite a while.

Aroma is full of piney hops and a hint of alcohol. Good caramel aroma as well.

Bitter on the tongue with piney resin dominating. Slight caramel backbone lends just a whiff of sweetness and adds to the body, making it medium and not dry.

A really solid offering. I like the bitterness for sure but even at 6% it seems the alcohol plays too much of a role in the flavor.

Enjoyed on tap & recommended by bartender @ Marriott KC airport. Pretty tasty - full of flavor IPA. At $ 8.25 a pop I better have enjoyed it. Definitely try again & recommend.

Pours a light copper with a two finger fluffy off white head. Aroma is pine, resin, citrus, tropical fruits, and orange peel, with slight hop bitterness. Taste follows with pine, resin, citrus, tropical fruits, orange peel, and earth, with a touch of bitterness on the back end. Mouthfeel is thin to medium, a touch oily and slightly mouthcoating. Overall, this is a good ipa from tallgrass, not their best effort imho, but quite tasty, and decent abv to have a few.

Can dated drink by 10/14/16 into a tumbler glass. Pours a copper with finger+ of variable density khaki head that left some mixed lacing. Nose is earthy and grassy, really needed something else, citrus, tropical, pine, dank, etc. Taste was far too malt forward for my palate. Needed more hop character to balance the malt and breadiness. Mouthfeel was good, quite a bit of body, and the carbonation good. It's a OK beer I won't revisit. Glad my wife was thinking of me and brought me beer from her trip to Fargo, just wish she'd come across something better.

Appearance: Hazy light gold, moderate white cap and lace.

Aroma: Conifer, a bit earthy, something almost like old leather but pleasant. Citrus also, perhaps some floral. Little malt apparent.

Taste: For a hop forward brew this is well balanced. Malt missing in the aroma comes forward in the taste. Hops dominate but don't conceal the malt which comes across as rather dry with a little sweetness but not much. Lively, clean flavors that play their roles well. Finish is dryish and bitter with a lingering aftertaste.

Texture: Reasonably full in feel, it's got some heft to it.

Overall: I like this, well, as much as I care for other IPAs. I might like it better on draft.

Kind of old school aroma. Takes me back to the 90's. Some citrus and earthiness and even a bit of earthy funk. Weed and grass and hay. Rather cloudy amber. Beige head that shows lacing and stickiness.
Hop forward with a rather aggressive bitterness. Complex hops with a solid malt foundation without much sweetness. There is some pine and some of the dirty earthiness in the taste and in many ways matching the aroma. The finish has a strong citrus/grapefruit to the bitterness and it hangs around a good long time.
A nice softness and fullness to the feel and with ample carbonation adding to it.
A good basic old school IPA.

This is an amber golden colored beer, with a creamy white head. The smell is a bit spicy with some wood and earth. Background flowery hops. The taste is balanced, if not a little dry, with a firm bitterness. Lingering bitter finish. This is a great beer.

16 oz can. Pours slightly hazy copper gold with a big creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet bready malt and minty onion hops.

The flavor is sweet creamy malts with minty hops and a little green onion. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, not my favorite.

L (4) - Nice light copper, fairly clear beer, with light bright-white foam on top.
S (3.5) - Not much aroma here. Not bad, just not there. A slight bit of piney hop smell, but you have to really be looking for it.
T (4) - Tastes pretty good. You do get some of the malt at first, and then a little bit of the bitter hops at the end.
F (3.5) - Beer just seems a little bit thin. Lacking in body, I guess you'd say. The carbonation is fine I'd say.
O (3.75) - Overall an okay beer. It's tough in the IPA space, because there are so many readily available beers that are fantastic. This one is okay, but not great.

Copper to dark bold in color with a light haziness. There's an inch of frothy beige head on top. Aroma is more of a citrus hop aroma, but is balanced with light malt. I taste a very evenly balanced IPA with light malt and piney hops. The mouth is lightly sticky and resinous.

hazy amber, with a touch of lacing. smells and tastes a bit piney, with a bit of sweetness to it. touch of bitterness at the end, a bit dry, and not overly carbonated.

it's decent, but not something that would end up in rotation.

L: A medium orange amber color with a nice retaining head.
S: smells of citrus and hops. a sweet smell comes through underneath.
T: The taste doesn't match the smell. Not as much citrus but big piney hop flavor. Bitter middle that tails off to a dryer finish.
F:Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation.

O: pretty good, I was surprised by the flavor as it is more pine and resin than citrus. Not disappointed I bought a 4 pack.

Pours deep gold going to amber. 1+ finger cream colored head. Good retention on the head and lots of sticky lacing.

Tropical aroma. Mango, orange, and papaya. Citrus next. Grapefruit and lemon zest. Caramel malt.

Grapefruit comes to the fore on first sip. Lemon zest, mango, and mild pine. Caramel malt. Pepper. A bit of sea salt.

Medium body with medium carbonation. Smooth and creamy with an increasing bitterness toward the end. Lingering grapefruit and pine.

Very pleasant surprise for a 6% IPA. Flavor almost like a DIPA but easy drinking.

A - nice copper amber clear color, off white head that seems to be sticking
S- grassy, pine, grapefruit, then a big whiff of orange and mango just hit me. It's wierd, at first I got the grass/pine but after a few whiffs it becomes a big tropical juicy beer.
T- grassy, pine, grapefruit, orange zest. Not as much in the taste as there was in the smell.
M - aftertaste is straight pine and grapefruit. Alcohol covered. Mouthful is light to medium.
O - the smell really hit me there for a second, but the taste is your standard piney/grapefruit ipa, nothing amazing

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of off white head which settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: An earthy, piney, and juicy hop forward aroma with a scent of grass, citrus, and pine. Earthy hop hints of grass and pine resin. Citrus hints of grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, and lemon. Malt hints of caramel, grains, cracker, and yeast. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, an earthy and juicy hop driven taste with notes of grass, pine, and citrus. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Citrus notes of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, and pineapple. Backing malt notes of caramel, cracker, grains, and yeast. A nice hoppy taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and pretty drying.

Overall: A pretty solid IPA. More grassy and piney than citrus forward.

Aroma is hugely grassy, resiny, dank, and moderately citrusy, with an underlying caramel malt character.

Flavor is more resin, grass, and bitter-focused, with a toasted malt backbone and muddled citrus highlight.

Somewhat dark amber color with two fingers of dense head that slowly settled to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of wood, pine, citrus, and a bit of caramel. More old school West Coast IPA aroma and flavor. Exceptionally bitter which is surprising with the malt bill used. I expected something with some sweetness to balance the hefty IBUs. Also seems they did not get the best qualities of the hop varieties used. Flavors of hop resin, pine, earth, and citrus. A little bit of caramel malt. Nice body but a little thin. Nice that this is not just another Citra hop IPA, but overall it just is not that great.
