Our taste for dark, malty beers and hop-forward beers join together in Backpacker Brown, a hoppy, Northwestern-style brown ale that highlights the best of both worlds. Dark malts give it a rich, robust mouthfeel and a toasty, caramel-like aroma, with a generous dose of Northwestern hops providing a tasty balance of resiny and citrus hop flavors. A beer for hikes, trails or wherever you may roam.

Nice hop forward beer, not as smooth as regular brown ale but a nice change of pace..

Poured out a dark brown color with a thick bubbly head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt and pine. Big piney hop bitterness with a touch of heat. Nice roasty malt backbone.

Deep ruby red/brown color with large tan cap and good lacing.
Aroma of dark roasted barley with a hint of spicy hops.
Dark toasted bread flavor with some resinous hop influence. More of a dry roasted malt flavor than caramel or toffee. Fairly simple flavor on entry that remains consistent to the finish. Hops sort of pop up, in and out, without actually blending in. Both a roasted malt bitterness and a hop bitterness linger in the aftertaste.
A thinnish medium texture that could use a little more carbonation.
It seems this one is pulling in different directions at the same time. Is it to be dry or rich? Hop accented or darkly smooth? I can follow either thread but can't tie them together.

backpacking with beer always seemed silly to me. that said, i would pack a sixer of these for an overnight, especially around a campfire.
shockingly enough, it's brown. thin, creamy head with lots of lacing. smells woody with some resinous hops. taste is woody with a bit of bread base. afterwards, it moves towards pine notes - not a lot of sweet in this for me, but that's ok.
creamy mouthfeel, with a dry aftertaste.
lives up to its name in that it tastes like the outdoors. i do love a good, brown ale and this is no exception.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.
Appearance: Pours a deep brownish amber. Moderate amount of bubbles and a big two finger off white head which settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A toasty and earthy aroma with a scent of caramel, toast, and grass. Good earthy hop scent of grass and pine resin with some floral hints. Citrus hints of grapefruit, orange, and lemon. Pale malt scent of caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, grains, cracker, and nuts with some yeast. A pretty solid aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a toasty and earthy hoppy Brown taste with notes of caramel, toast, and grass. Strong hop presence with earthy notes of pine resin and grass. Citrus hop notes of orange, grapefruit, and lemon. Pale malt notes of caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, cracker, grains, and nuts along with yeast. A solid taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, and smooth.
Overall: A pretty nice hopped up Brown Ale. Nice mix of earthy hop bitterness with the toasty caramel malt.

Chestnut color with a creamy 1 finger head in this nonic pint.
Aroma of lightly roasted and caramel malts with quite a citrus presence. Slight oatmeal.
This is definitely a brown IPA more than anything. Tons of citrus rind, lemon peel, lemon grass, with some caramel and toasty malts. The malty sweetness does tend to weigh in handily, but it's still not out of IPA territory. Tons of grapefruit rind on the finish.
Feel is creamy, yet very zippy and carbonated.
Overall this is a bit too hoppy to be completely enjoyable, but it's still better than a lot of brown ales I've had. I'll probably dump the rest to save calories.
