Middle of the road stout, nothing really unique here. This is a different level of flavor but a bit different from a can. I could taste the metallic components of this brew with a stout. It is not that killed the stout entirely but it was something I di not expect.

12 oz can. Pours a dark brown with a large mocha brown head that has excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with chocolate and roasted malt flavors while having a full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with oatmeal, very little coconut and lactose sugar sweetness.

Could be so much better. ONly if it were BA. Would easily be a 4.5/5, at least. Lacking mouth feel, a bit watered down on the flavors. Other than that decent adjunct notes, would consume again.

Very refreshing with restrained sweetness. Tried this one on tap. Very nice dark black color, a little bit of head and some spotty lingering lacing. Smells of dark chocolate and a little vanilla. Tastes more of milk chocolate - almost like German chocolate cake - along with its frosting, vanilla hints and a little hazelnut. Also has faint notes caramel, malt and coconut. Very nice and smooth, mild slightly creamy mouthfeel and good amount of carbonation. I definitely enjoyed this one more than Tallgrass’ oatmeal stout.

Tallgrass German Chocolate Cake, 5% ABV. Pours black with a 2+ finger tan head which left no lacing. Nose is slight chocolate, taste is strong dark chocolate, slight roast malt bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

The beer pours out a black color with red hues and a thin dark khaki colored head------------------- the aromas are of dark chocolate and roasted malts(very subdued nose)----------------- the flavors follow the nose with dark chocolate and roasted malts(no coconut at all)the beer has a thin mouthfeel with a roasted bitterness on the finish---------------- overall this beer didn't live up to the name German chocolate cake, I got the chocolate but no coconut to be found anywhere-----

12 ounce can into pint glass, best before 9/28/2018. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Lightly spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, coconut, vanilla frosting, cream, marshmallow, fudge, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of dark, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, lactose, cocoa, and coconut notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, coconut, vanilla frosting, cream, marshmallow, fudge, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, coconut, vanilla frosting, cream, marshmallow, fudge, toasted dark/brown bread, light herbal/grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, lactose, cocoa, and coconut flavors; with a solid roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is an excellent flavored cream stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, lactose, cocoa, and coconut flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very nice richness for the ABV. Really great balance of all flavors, nothing is overwhelming. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected.

This started super handsome , but the head died pretty fast. Nose is coffee with plenty of milk and sugar.
The flavor shows more complexity, with toasted nuts, coconut, and coffee showing up early. The flavor and texture are both a little understated.
Good flavor but a little less than I was hoping for this brewer with this style.
