Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We love this beer here at the brewery, and think you will have one of those “I’ve never-tasted-a-beer-like-that” kind of moments when you try it!

What we really like about this beer is the smoothness that brewing with cream sugar brings to the palate. This smoothness balances out the copious quantities of roasted barley used in the brewing process to create a rich, complex, and delicious beer. If you have not been a stout drinker in the past, give this beer a try. It might just change your mind about how dark beers should taste. It tastes so rich, but is surprisingly easy to drink!

Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat, 5% ABV, 20 IBU. Pours medium viscosity and black with a slight tan head. Had more head until I dinked around trying to get a decent picture. Not much nose here - and taste follows, no bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, overall very OKish.

Pours well from a can or tap, pours with a nice head, very smooth drinking and has enough bitter to finish clean and not be over sweet.

On tap at Fireflour, Bismarck, North Dakota. Figured, I’d take a stab at this since my pizza took a good 45 minutes to show up. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a pure dark brown color with a slim half fingered white to off white foamy head dissipating to a film coating the top of the glass. The smell had a sweet roasted coffee bean with a huge chocolate awesomeness. The taste mostly copied the smell and lead to a sweet semi-dry aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this sat about a medium on the body and had a good sipping quality about it. The carbonation was smoot and lead to a nice creaminess. Overall, definitely a great milk/sweet stout I would love to have again.

Enjoyed at Riva Chicago in the can.
a) Average, scant last, not much lace over brown-black body.
s)=Milky roast chocolate and malt not much hop.
t) As with smell but more ample, and more char, milk, malt.
f) Too thin for stout. Want more generosity.

Served on tap. Pour is a cola colored liquid with a finger of rich, mocha colored head. Aromas of chocolate and double-double coffee. Flavors follows the nose, with cocoa and cream taking more of the stage than the roast coffee notes. Very easy and smooth.

Had this on tap at the Regal Beagle in Godfrey, IL. Black in color with a thin tan head. Smooth and creamy sweet stout with plenty of chocolate. A great tasting stout that goes down easy at 5%. I could drink a few of these. Hope I start seeing it on tap more often.

Pours a dark brown with a finger of quickly receding tan head that left a slight ring around the edge. Smells of toasted grains, coffee, milk chocolate, a little nuttiness. Tastes about the same, a bit more of the milk chocolate than the coffee and toasted grains. Medium carbonation and no alcohol heat (5% ABV so wasn't expecting any).

Drink before 7/28/17 on the can

A: Pours dark brown with a very tall and light brown head. Good head retention but very little lacing.

S: Toasted/burnt bread with hints of dark chocolate. Tiniest touch of vanilla.

T: Huh, interesting. Sweet chocolate and vanilla up front. Light coffee backing it up, especially in the middle. Toasted bread in the finish with more lingering creamy chocolate in the aftertaste.

M: Somewhat light bodied, very smooth and creamy.

O: Packs a lot of complexity and sweetness in a 5% stout. Great creaminess, great chocolate and a nice substantial malt presence to boot. Can't go wrong. Almost a session stout if there were such a thing.
