On tap at the Republic, looking forward to this one. Tallgrass doesn't do anything revolutionary but I think they are a bit under-rated.

If anything, 8-bit's pour is clear. Not a lot of sediment to cloud the eye. Light in color, with no more than a half finger of head.

Aromatically, I pick up bakery, tiny bit of spice, and a surprising wallop of cut grass and hops.

Taste tends to follow the schnoz. Again, surprised by the hop presence. Mouthfeel might be a bit much on carbonation, but still all right.

Good summer beer. Wasn't looking for anything spectacular and didn't get it, but I would go back to 8-bit for schizzle.

This just came out in cans, and the packaging was just way too tempting. I suspect they'll sell a lot of this just based on the can design. Says "hop rocketed". No idea what that means. On to the beer.

Pours a slightly hazy, almost completely clear, medium golden yellow. White head that erupted so much I had to slow my pour. Pillowy, fluffy, and cratered, with fantastic retention and sea-foam-like clumps of lacing. Doesn't get much better, IMO.

Smell is lovely and mellow, if a little faint. Most of it is hops, but it's all smooth and peaceful, without the harshness of many hopped-up beers. Feels like it had a whole lot of dry-hopping, without so much in the boil. I get lots of sweet citrus (an orange-lemon blend), with some hints of pulpy tropical fruit (melon). Malt base is hidden in the background.

The taste is more bitter than I expected, without much malt to support it, and without as much of the fruity hops that I picked up in the nose. Tastes a lot like the unbalanced single IPAs that I don't really like. Heavy on the grassy hops here. Its main saving grace is that the bitterness isn't overpowering, and lets a bit of the slightly sweet caramel malts come through.

Mouthfeel is decent. Light body, the expected amount of carbonation. Finish fades out pretty quickly, but leaves a low-level lingering bitterness.

I was almost sold by the look and the smell, but the taste didn't really do it for me. Smells like delicious hops, tastes like un-delicious hops. Don't plan on drinking too much of this.

Poured from a 16 ounce can into a pint glass.

A: Pours a pale golden hue with some slight haze. One-inch fluffy white head settles slowly, leaving decent lace on the glass.

S: Some toasty malt character enveloped by grassy, citrusy hops.

T: Biscuit-like malt up front, with hops dominating. Notes of grapefruit and grassy undertones, along with a touch of marmalade. Finish is clean and floral.

Notes: Moderate in body, with a soft mouthfeel. Flavor is intense, but finishes extremely clean. 8-Bit is a very easy-to-drink brew, and quite tasty. One of my favorite Tallgrass offerings thus far.

16oz. can served in a SA perfect pint glass. Poured a clear, pale gold with a couple of fingers of fine bubbled white head. Lots of tropical fruit in the aroma. Very fragrant. A little bready malt. Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Not as bitter as the aroma would suggest, but there is a fair amount of hop bitterness. Bit of drying mouth pucker in the finish. Very drinkable.

Pour - straw colored as it fills the glass with some golden hues and a nice, thick white head on top. What a great looking beer, it almost looks too good to drink...almost.

Aroma - bready, biscuity malt sweetness mixes with some citrus and floral notes and hints of peaches and melon and some tropical fruit flavors as well as fresh cut grass. Very aromatic and a great beer just to shove your nose into and take it all in before its gone.

Taste - Sweet on the tongue with light honey flavors and some of that biscuity maltiness while the hop profile comes in a bit later and sweeps you off your feet. It's lightly bitter on the tongue with lemon, orange and grapefruit mixed with some floral hop flavors.

Overall - One sip and you'll know that Tallgrass has a winner with their 8-Bit Pale Ale. It's light on the palate with a lot of great flavor and a crisp finish with just the right amount of bite to be super refreshing and draw you back in for more. This could be a go to beer as the weather begins to warm. Excellent work Tallgrass!

Pours a hazy dark straw color with a solid two fingers of thick white head.

Pretty great nose on this one. Stronger citrusy hops than I would've guessed for an American Pale Ale. There's something else in the nose that I can't quite put my finger on, something biscuity.

The taste is pretty hop forward for the style. The hop character is a bit grassy yet mostly citrusy. I don't know much about the Galaxy hop but I like it's use here. There's a nice light malt background but the flavor that I couldn't put my finger on in the nose seems almost like corn.

The mouthfeel on this one is really crisp and quite dry. Good for an unseasonably warm day like today.

Overall, pretty good. I could certainly see myself having a few of these. Good balance of flavors and a well hopped pale ale for hop heads like me.

Serving glass: Poured from can into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Light, hazy honey-gold with foamy, stark white head.

Smell: Dry, tart and sweet all at the same time. Grapefruit, mango, pineapple and tea.

Taste: Dry malty backbone with tea and caramel that is fairly English-like. The hops are definitely not English-style, with orange, grapefruit, other tropical fruits, spice and floral notes. It is actually hard to pick out individual flavors, as it is all integrated very well. Fairly bitter finish for an APA.

Feel: Medium bodied, with a fantastic firm creaminess. Carbonation is relatively low, and the finish is nice and dry.

Overall: Nice APA that actually manages to be original in a category that is usually pretty straightforward. I hope this raises awareness and sales for Tallgrass, who, while hit or miss in my opinion, definitely hit at least a triple with this one.

Pale golden yellow color with a massive head of eggshell white foam. Easily three fingers thick and nice retention.

Unique hop smell going on from the galaxy. I think this is a new hop for me. Grassy, briny and citrusy hop scents.

Very crisp hop snap with grass and grapefruit peel notes. Lighter malt presence for slight balance. More grapefruit at the end and into the finish.

Has a lighter feel with a crisp hop bite and dry finish.

A hop forward pale ale with some unique hop flavor. Kind of between a pale and an IPA. Maybe closer to the latter. This will make a nice warm weather drinker.

Appearance: Golden color, clear, with a finger-width of foam. Just a little bit of lacing.

Smell: A very fresh smell with a small hint of hops. Not much in the smell that was especially noticeable.

Taste: The taste was mostly about hops and grass. Quite grassy, in fact, but very nicely balanced. Very refreshing beer and very drinkable. Dry malt finish, just supportive enough for the malt to come through.

Mouth feel: Light mouth feel, not heavily carbonated.

Poured from a tall can into a Smokestack glass. The first pour was about 40% head with large bubbles. A few minutes left a thin head with nice lacing.

Color is similar to a medium wheat. On the cloudy side.

Aroma is mild hops, melon. My nose isn't very good today.

Flavor - Instant hops, a touch of sweet malt and fruit.

Mouthfeel - Similar to a good IPA. Sharp and fast, but not overpowering the palate. Linger in the roof before cleaning.

Overall - The label says a hop-rocketed pale ale, which is a good description. A definite on my "must buy again" list. Now to find it on tap...

Brewed with Galaxy Hops from New Zealand.

A - Poured out a clear, copper color with a two-finger, tan head of bubbly foam. It left sticky trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of tropical fruits like mango and pineapple. There was a touch of caramel and grassy notes.

T - It tasted of sweet tropical fruits, a light caramel flavor and some grassy bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a really good pale ale. Tallgrass keeps getting better and better with each new brew.
