08/22/13 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. A great pils. A touch spicier than most. Thoughtful brew. Only caveat is the 7.6% ABV. Session-able taste & body, but treacherous kick. God bless us one & all.

Poured from the uncorked bottle, this imperial pilsner - or uber pils - fills the glass with a roiling froth that slowly subsides into a cloudy amber body topped with a billowy head. The nose emits faint whiffs of hay, lemon and citrus. The initial sip is easy what with the support of Hallertau hops and pilsner malts; there is a subtle sweetness herein that cedes to a stronger maltiness.

The body is substantial but crisp with a mild bitterness in the end. That said, there is a rather agreesive booziness that eventually takes hold as the quaff continues. A potent structure held together by all your basic beer food groups.

I was not familiar with this small Virginia brewery prior to experiencing this one. Sometimes it is the small guys that really impress. Looking forward to trying these guys again.
