Had on-tap at HomeD pizza in State College, poured into a snifter.

L: Pours a deep hazy mahogany color. Minimal head and no significant lacing.

S: Fruits and oak. Pretty minimal bourbon which is possibly overpowered by the Belgian yeasts.

T/F: Malty and fruity, with notes of raisins, cherries, and blueberries. Rich Belgian yeast flavors add complexity and the oak is very subtle with faint vanilla. Not picking up a lot of the bourbon... especially for a barrel aged beer. I'm sure it's in there but it definitely takes a back seat to the fruits. Smooth and low carbonation.

O: A nice beer... and a little different from the 'bourbon barrel' aged boozefest that I was expecting. Still... I liked this beer and would like to have it again. Not easy to find in Pennsylvania.

Pours cloudy, gold, with 1/4 inch head and high carbonation. Taste is very interesting. There is a good deal of oak, plus fruitiness. I get cherries, plums, perhaps some apricot and slight bittering hops.. Very tasty combination. Happy I picked this up. One of the better offerings from the brewery so far.

delicious, fruity, yeasty and full of flavor the perfect easy drinking beer...if it wasn't for the pricetag.
Still a damn good beer, the bourbon and belgian yeast harmonize wonderfully and the hops bring it home.

Blue Mountain Barrel House "Local Species"
25.4 oz. brown glass bottle, corked & caged. "Best By: NOV 2015"
$9.99 @ Cost Plus World Market, Arlington, VA

Appearance: Hazy amber body beneath a full head of creamy off-white that holds well and leaves some pretty nice solid sheets of lace around the glass.

Aroma: Oak, caramelish malt, non-descript spice. It's not particularly bright, but it's clean and welcoming.

Flavor: Oak, non-descript spice, brown sugar, light golden caramel, Bourbon, grass, mint, clove, apple, soft green banana. Delicately bitter, but dry in the finish with a swirl of spiciness that lingers.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a very fine, median carbonation that gently bristles the tongue.

Overall: Not particularly Belgian, nor particularly Bourbon-barrel, it combines the two in a really nice way. It's relaxing, if that can be; perhaps because you're almost forced to treat it as a sipping beer.

750ml into a solo cup.

A: Deep, hazy gold-copper with 1/2" white head that dissipates quickly. Retention is OK, not much lacing to speak of.

S: Banana, oak, some oily hoppage, slightly yeasty funk. Brown sugar & caramel.

T: Banana, oak. Raspberry, bourbon. Mild yeasty note here. Apple pie.

M: Moderate carb with a full bodied-maltiness. Very appropriate.

O: A bit too sweet for my taste, but pleasantly complex.
