Poured from a 12.7 oz corked bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours reddish orange with a small white head. Smells of piney hops and some Belgian yeast. Tastes of Belgian yeast with some piney hops with a bit of barrel age aftertaste. Beer is slightly heavily carbonated but finishes nice for a medium body. Overall a very good beer.

On tap at Sticks and Stones.Poured into a stemmed glass a slight hazed deep auburn color with a fluffy white head that lasted for quite awhile.Carmael and dark fruit stood out most in the nose with mild phenols and vanilla detected as well.Somewaht sweet upfront with caramel and vanilla flavors with lighter than expected spiced phenols coming into play with a decent drying toasted oak flavors lingering in the finish. The barrel doesn't play a huge role in this either does the phenols, maybe a slightly tame version of the style, still not bad.

This was inside a mystery box that I picked up at my local spot. Cork says best before July 2014. Poured into Brooklyn Brewery snifter that I picked up for a buck at the Goodwill store.

a - Very cloudy, dark, reddish copper color. Not much light getting through. Two fingers off white head with spotty lacing. Head dissipates quickly.

s - Earthy, funky, sour fruit scents. Vinegar. Belgian yeast. Slight bourbon scent. Smells more like a Saison than a strong pale ale.

t - There's a lot going on in here. Starts sweet. Definitely some light hoppiness balanced well with the yeast. Ends with a spicy, dry finish that warms with the bourbon.

m - Medium body. Light carbonation. Yeast comes through here. Bourbon lingers on the tongue. ABV feels like more than it's 6.6%, but still a very easy drinking beer.

o - Very enjoyable beer. There's a lot of different stuff going on. Honestly, I could have done without the whole bourbon barrel thing here. Overall, I did really like it. I would definitely have this again.

Picked up a single at Ingles in Biltmore, NC which is right outside Asheville, NC. IMHO, the best place to buy beer in so-called "Beer City," because you get a great selection at the cheapest price. Only in Asheville could you find a beer like this at a grocery store!

Appearance 4.0: Poured out a beautiful caramel/amber color with a nice 1/2" frothy head. The head shrunk down to 1/4" and stayed around the entire session.

Smell 4.25: Wow! Amazing bouquet on this beer. Starts out with a simply fantastic blend of peppery, piney, citrusy hops all brought out and enhanced with a deep rosiny hint of oak and nice notes of vanilla and straw.

Taste 4.25: Front is slightly sweet with little in terms of real taste. This quickly fades to the middle where the palate receives a huge judo kick of piney hops, followed by a lovely taste of wood rosin, followed by a different hop flavor, this time citrus. Finish is slightly tangy with another hit of light, peppery hops and a big flavor of oak. Aftertaste is realitvely brief and, amazingly, is primarily focused on a deep maltiness that quickly fades.

Mouthfeel 4.0: Smooth, light and refreshing in the mouth.

Overall 4.25: Excellent brew and a fabulous IPA. This beer makes use of many west coast US hops and a very assertive malt that forms the backbone of the IPA. The added flavors from the oak barrels push everything over the top into the "above outstanding" category. Well worth the purchase if you are lucky enough to find it.
