Pours a pleasant deep brown/orange. Copious white head and fine effervescence . Smells of wood, bourbon, some sweet gourdy smell (pumpkin) , no pumpkin spice or cocoa on the nose. Tastes of bourbon, non-descript sweet malts, dark fruit, very little pumpkin or cocoa notes. Medium body , pleasant effervescence and clean finish.
Ovearll – Not bad for the genre – but very little of the flavors that I expected – very little pumpkin or cocoa and a bit cloying in its sweetness. Not terrible – but I wouldn’t purchase again.

The beer pours a nice white and foam y head that dissipates but leaves some foam on the top. The beer itself is a nice clear medium amber color that has a really strong orange hue.

The smell is nice and certainly different than other pumpkin beers. The smell has some really strong vanilla and bourbon notes. The pumpkin is barely noticeable since it mixes very well with the vanilla. The smell is not very spicy but it does have a nice cocoa note to it that mixes well with the other notes and makes it fairly a fairly tolerable smell for a pumpkin beer.

The notes in the taste are the same as the smell. The bourbon notes are a little bit stronger and the vanilla is a little bit weaker. The cocoa nibs add that nice chocolate flavor that gives it a needed sweet bitterness.

The feel is medium bodied but on the heavier side. It's smooth and a little bit creamy with biting carbonation that give it a nice bit of texture.

Overall, a very good pumpkin beer. The taste isn't too spicy or too pumpkin and the other notes make it into a nice balanced beer. While I don't think it's worth the price point, I don't really regret buying this beer. Definitely recommended as your Halloween beer.

Appearance: Dark brown with orange hues and a few hints of red. The head is an insanely creamy mass of white foam that leaves lots of lacing. It looks dense like memory foam.

Aroma: There is a fairly strong bourbon and oak aroma that dominates and leaves room for nothing else. It's good but it has that "bourbon barrel aroma" that you'll get from every bourbon barrel aged beer. No spice, pumpkin, or chocolate comes through in the aroma.

Taste: I get bourbon flavor accompanied by a slight hint of black cherry. The bottle says "ale brewed with pumpkin flavor and cocoa nibs aged in bourbon barrels." I don't taste any pumpkin or cocoa.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium mouthfeel with a good amount of carbonation. There is a light tannic quality to the beer which gives it some good palate complexity.

Overall: It was pretty poor for a pumpkin beer. It just tastes like "insert random bourbon barrel aged beer" without delivering any pumpkin flavor, any spice, or any chocolate. The bottle makes mention of nostalgic memories of trick-or-treating and how this beer is supposed to come close to the memory of those times. If this were Halloween candy it would be that ribbon candy old people give to kids. I don't know how anyone could taste this and think that it is a pumpkin or chocolate beer in any way. I feel pretty ripped off. For a bourbon barrel beer it isn't bad, but as a pumpkin pie and chocolate lover I feel like I have had the rug pulled out from under me. I would not buy it again and I would recommend others pass on it. With the shelves full of pumpkin beers this time of year there is simply no reason to settle for mediocrity. If you want to scratch that pumpkin itch this will not help you at all.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy reddish orange color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness. Light oak/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice barrel aged imperial pumpkin ale style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Halloween beer!

A- poured into a snifter. Pours a dark and hazy amber color with some orange hues, nice frothy white head has good retention and leaves a small layer floating on top as it settles

S- some raw pumpkin guts up front with some faint underlying cinnamon and ginger, there's some barrel character but it's very hard to find. Faint aromas overall

T- In terms of a pumpkin ale, the pumpkin flavors are of raw pumpkin, rather than the pumpkin spices. Bourbon flavors kick in mid-palate with a hint of vanilla, they aren't very strong but do overpower and flavor of pumpkin. Some sweet brown sugar at the end with a touch of lingering vanilla barrel flavor

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a moderate and silky mouthfeel with with a smooth finish, ABV is barely noticeable

O- I was hoping for a little more assertive pumpkin flavor to match up with the bourbon. Glad to try it but not one I would go back to

Poured from a cork and cage bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a muddled, hazy, orange-brown coloring with a sparse, filmy, off-white head that coats the glass as you drink. Aromas of subtle pumpkin, bourbon, vanilla, woody characteristics, and very subtle spices. The bourbon barrel aging seems to have overpowered the other aromas. Flavors are heavy bourbon forward, with all the vanilla notes and warmth that comes along with it. The pumpkin becomes a highlight, and there are only trace hints of cinnamon throughout. Mid-bodied, with a slight effervescence that helps lighten up the robust flavors and building warmth. Boozy and bourbon aftertaste, leading to a warming, booze lingering, slick finish. This beer is a bit off the map for the style, but a flavor bomb nonetheless.
