22oz bottle poured into a giant mug

Pours slightly cloudy orange golden, medium head that fades fast and leaves a lot of lacing. Smell is impressive. It practically filled the room as soon as I popped the crack. Super floral hoppy, it just smells beautiful.

Taste is more muted and one sided, but still tasty. Bitter hops, floral hops, nice malty sweetness. Very nice beer.

Mouthfeel is smooth and light, a little sticky. Overall, quite good beer.

At the brewery, real cool, almost glowing orange. Tons of cascading lace when you have it on tap. Killer hop aroma. A plethora of hop varieties in the dry hopping I would guess.

Beautiful display of hops on the tongue, bitterness is just about perfect, not grating, not just a long boil, but massive hop mouthfeel, green, vegetal, could tell me it was a fresh hop ale and I'd believe ya. Hops shine despite a solid malt presence, this one isn't light in that department. To get that orange, in a single, just nice man, so nice. Pine is huge, citrus is large. Pine trees and tangerine together again. Dry finish.

A must for all hopheads.

EDIT: 4/13: I've had this so many times lately that were not as good when fresh or something. I dunno. Great stuff at the brewery, not so great in cans, bottles etc. . .

A: It pours a light amber color with burnt orange hues. There is a two finger white head that hangs around briefly leaving very small bits of lacing.

S: The nose is very intriguing. There is a strong rush of funky pine cones, citrus, and then toasted malt sweeps in. The hops are very strong, but the malt is holding it's own. This is one of the most balanced West Coast IPA's have come across as far the smell is concerned.

T: There is no question this is a hop monster (it is a fresh bottle). A wave of pine and citrus assault the palate and linger for some time. The malt makes a statement mid palate and also shows up nice and toasty on the back of the palate. The finish also reminds one of the lingering hops as it finishes dry and bitter.

M: The mouthfeel is medium bodied mildly carbonated.

O: Maybe it is the organic malt, but the balance is truly exceptional in this beer. The hops are still upfront, so no worries for all of the hopheads. I would seek this one out again for sure.

Poured a dark, hazy orange amber into a tulip with a finger of loose white head. Gentle Cascade hop aroma with grapefruit, tangerine, and pine.

Moderate carbonation and a creamy, slightly resinous (almost thin) mouthfeel. Grapefruit up front with a gentle caramel honey sweetness followed by some not-too-astringent pine on the finish.

Really balanced and easy-drinking; nothing too extreme but very well-executed.

Bottle into Unibroue glass. Not sure when bottle as I could not find date.

Appearance: 4.5
Golden orange body with slight haze. White-orange tinted head that fades into a thin surface covering. Great lacing.

Smell: 3.5
Mild citrus aroma of grapefruit/orange with notes of pine too. Pleasant, but too subdued for my liking. Touch of bready malt also present.

Taste: 3.5
Classic moderate bitterness in citrus and piney flavors of hops. Balanced nicely with crystal, biscuit malt presence. But I find the beer a little bland and boring compare to the many other IPAs I've had. I suspect this is may be the result of aging and hops fade, but I cannot confirm. I do anticipate a much more robust flavor profile if had extremely fresh.

Mouthfeel: 3.5
Smooth, but thinner than I'd like. Mild Carbonation. Moderate astringency from hops, countered nice by sweet feel of malt.

Overall: 4
A nice IPA because it is very well balance and still quite drinkable. But I find it doesn't do much to stand out among the many of other IPA available. Recommend trying once if fresh.

A clear golden orange with a white head that diapates to a soft cap. The nose is pleasant with orange, grapefruit and some soft pine. The taste is very clean ithe bitter orange and a bit of pine in the background. The mouthfeel is light and not overly dry. This is a good beer and a nice hop fix.

Picked up a bottle on the suggestion of my fellow BA...

A - Pours a nice golden orange, finger of head with some retention and some sporadic sticky lacing.

S - Slightly mild given the hop presence, but earthy hops with a sweet toffee malt and a touch of earl gray tea.

T - The bitter hops shine through, coming off with a peppery presence amongst some earthy cedar and pine notes. The toffee malts come through on the finish and linger with some biscuit notes also coming through.

M - Medium bodied, goes down smooth and finishes with a touch of dryness. Perfect for an IPA and not overly dry.

O - Overall a very tasty IPA, and I'm glad I took the opportunity to take it for a test drive. A solid hop presence, but nicely balanced with the toffee malts. Easily drinkable/poundable and easily a hophead's delight.

A - a murky orange hue, solid white head left consistent sticky lacing as it receded
S - strong floral and citrus notes, sharp grain, and some light pine
T - strong hop mix of florals, perfumes, and citrus & pineapple fruitiness, toasted grain malt backed it up, and piney hops come through on the finish, so good all around
M - medium carbonation, starts smooth and moves to a subdued bitter that stays wet throughout
O - a hop heads delight, so glad I picked this up at random just because I hadn't seen it before

From a 650 ml brown bottle. Pours out a hazed marmalade hue, tall frothy and chunky white head with loose bubbles and soapy lacing.

Aroma possesses layers of dry spice, sweet citrus and pine, along with some dry grains.

Dry earthy grains up front in the flavour, immediately joined by spicy, leafy hops, orange and lemon rind in the middle, with some pine and dry, astringent grapefruit pith on the finish and in the aftertaste.

Medium-full mouthfeel, soapy, oily texture, with moderate carbonation that provides a bit of kick on the finish.

A classic taste of the PNW, pretty much directly along the lines of what comes to mind for me when an American IPA is in question. This nails it.

Appearance. Pours a hazy, light peachy gold. A finger of white, bubbly head that leaves a little lacing.

Smell. Light grains, yellow grapefruit and lemon and herby hops.

Taste. Spicy, herby hops! Some orange and grapefruit rind and a little anise.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with medium, smooth carbonation.

Overall. Nice IPA. And because it's organic, my future children should continue to have the correct number of appendages.

Great looking IPA. Bright colour, hazy, with a neat cascading type action leading to a rich, thick head and tons of lacing.

Sweet bready malts and a floral pine hop that makes you want to drink some immediately.

some malt sweetness that quickly gets washed aside by waves of citrus and pine malts. Some malt attempts to break through in the finish along with a slight soapiness. finish is still bitter and slightly sticky.

full, slick, and slighty oily

Nice IPA, well balanced and very drinkable

Poured from a 22oz bottle into my Dogfish shaped glass. It poured a hazy amber color with a thick, bright white head filling the top two inches of the glass. Very good head retention as well as lacing as I drank it.

The aroma has a very nice and bright hoppiness to it. It has a juicy, pineapple, mango, grapefruit flavor going on. It's all about the hops as I don't get much else coming through. Love the juicy hoppiness though.

The taste has a sweeter, juicy hoppiness to it up front. I get a lot of pineapple and mango to it at first. Towards the finish some of the bitter, citrus rind like flavors come out along with some grapefruit. Throughout the beer I get a bit of a malty, slightly caramel like sweetness that really compliments the hops nicely. I really liked the juicy, hoppiness that it had.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being moderate. Overall this was a very good IPA and I really enjoyed it. The juicy, fruity flavors definitely nailed my tastes in IPA's. Very nice beer overall.

650ml bottle poured into tulip mar14 2011

A hazy golden orange with just a few slowly raising bubbles that feed a thick off white head that just sits there leaving rings of lace well down the glass

S faint toffee with a little lime and other fruit, plenty of hops and just a hint of earthy flowery goodness

T a little pine I didn't smell with some pineapple and grapefruit on top of what I smell, tasty stuff

M thick and slick, no complaints here

D I took down the bomber pretty quick and could take down another if I had one

one of the better IPA's I've had in recent memory and a nice addition to the shelves here in Alberta

Received in a recent trade. Top 50 IPA, nice.

Beer is brown and mostly clear with moderate carbonation but a lazy head, low lacing.

Aroma is grainy, not malty, mild earthiness from the hops.

Beer is medium in body and wet on the palate. There is a slight hop flavor at lead off then this earthy / sulfury / grassy midpalate to the beer that is a little off putting finishing up with a moderately bitter but slightly dry finish followed by a grainy aftertaste. Not the best IPA I've had by a long shot but it was OK overall. I won't go out of my way to have it again but perhaps one day when I'm in Oregon with my family I can grab a pint on draft.

02/02/11- Review of a 22 oz bottle of this.
A: Sligthly hazy amber, it poured with a one-finger white head that died to a nice film and lacing.
S: Sweet tangerine pine hops that are slightly green, bananas, floral yeast notes... overall nice.
T: Very piney bitterness, cheese, slightly dry orange rind, apple juice. Not as good as the smell, but still all right.
M: Thinner, but frothy.
D: Good.

S= From the nose there was strong citrus notes, I also got a lot of "earthy" notes from this one.

T= Taste to me was more "earthy" didn't get a huge hop taste. Mainly earthy with a slight lemon taste.

M= Clean, crisp right amount of carbonation.

D= Pretty smooth very drinkable would be nice on a summer day.

A clear golden cooper with a 1" foamy head. Great retention. Large carbonation bubbles are constant. Apple, citrus and a nice floral scent tickle the nose. Quite a bitter beer for 6.6% abv. All the smells are on the taste, the by some pine first. Leaves the mouth dry and sticky, kinda heavy. Easy drinking and one that could be consumed often, if hops are your preference.

A: Very little haze, light coppery color with a good 1/2" of dense head formation. sporadic lacing.

S: strong citrus, grapefruit, mild maltiness, a little earthy and grass on the back end.

T: Highly hoppy up front, although not overly bitter. earthy aftertaste, slightly grassy. I don't know...not much complexity here.

M: medium bodied, smooth, carbonation on the lower side.

D: Not a bad beer. easy going down. I know HUB is fairly popular and gaining popularity, but something about their flavor profile (their yeast) is just not my thing.

Special thanks to bro-in-law Jeff!

Bomber served cold in a pint glass.

Hopworks IPA is a very hazy golden orange color with smooth white head. It settles slowly but leaves some nice lacing behind.

Aroma is very big on citrus hops. Candied citrus peel with lots of lemon and orange. Grapefruit too.

Flavor is really nice too - a great west coast hop-forward IPA. The same citrus from the aroma comes through in the well-balanced flavor.

Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied and good carbonation. Balance is very good for a big hoppy IPA. There's just the right amount of sweetness.

Overall an excellent IPA and one I wish I could get around here.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: Inviting and foreboding at the same time. A bright apricot color is noticeable where the light strikes the glass, with a darker amber color in the center. Medium sized carbonation bubbles cling to the edges of the glass at first, then release to help maintain the head. The head is white and rocky at first, slowly fading from the initial level but retaining nicely. Splotches of lace cling to the glass.

Smell: Pale malt is definitely used to set the table for the monster hop bill. Tons of citrus bursts out of the bottle and into my nose. Once I get down into it, juicy pink grapefruit, tangerine, and candied orange are in play as well. Soft caramel sweetness as well.

Taste: I definitely appreciate the level of flavor to IBU's here. Light breadiness comes out and is more noticeable with each sip. A caramel flavor sneaks in up front and intermittently throughout. The hops are all citrus - grapefruit, tangerine, and orange. A bit of bitter pine resin steps in at the end as a reminder of what kind of beer this is.

Mouthfeel: Tons of hops packed in here contribute to an oily feel behind the lips that lingers after the taste. There is some that would remain on the tongue as well except for the light salivation drinking it causes along with the crisp carbonation that lifts the oil as well. Fuller than medium carbonation creates this effect. It drinks with a medium body. It starts to gain a creaminess as my palette adjusts and the beer warms a bit.

Drinkability: This is a solid IPA. Hoppy, but with enough balance and flavor that I don't lose interest. Both beers I have had from Hopworks have been solid.

Appearance- very clear straw color with a nice pillowy white head. Good lacing through sips.

Smell- earthy and piney hops and a little bit of malt.

Taste- nice balance of hop and malt. Good bitterness at the end of the sip that is not overpowering.

Mouthfeel- good mouthfeel for an IPA. I don't really care for an IPA with a big mouthfeel.

Drinkability- very nice. I wish they made these in 6 packs. I could easily put down 3 a night and be fine.

Hopworks is one of my favorite breweries and this is one of my favorite beers they have. Highly recommend.

Reviewed on 01/31/2010. 22 oz. bottle thanks to kenb. The beer pours a clear orange with a small white head. The aroma is of garlicky hops, citrus, grassy hops. The flavor is of caramel malt, some iced tea, citrus, light pale malts. Super drinkable. A tasty IPA!

Poured from bottle into imperial pint. Golden yellow with some amber hues and a tiny fizzy white head that settles into a collar with some lacing. Cool bottle, I like the totally random "ride your bike" logo. Smell is pretty subdued and balanced, pine and citrus hops with an equal amount of malty bread crust. Taste is an equal part bitter pine hops and biscuit malt. Not sweet at all, but the pilsner malt is very noticeable. Very resinous, but I would have liked to have tasted more of the amarillo. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and light carbonation, slightly heavy finish for the style. A very drinkable beer because of the balance. A very good IPA, I would love to try this at the brewery to get all the hop freshness out of it.
