I have been fortunate to have been afforded the introduction to my newest love in a pint with Extra Virgin Oven's supporting fare and was delighted as usual with trying a newer release from Coast, then continued my interest thanks to CBX's provision of a growlerful that lasted only too briefly...Was I only imagining the nose of weediness perfectly balanced with slight citrus and hop perfection that I have been missing since relocating to Charleston from California and having withdrawal symptoms, longing for something remotely Pliny or Sculpular to seep from what is a very interesting burgeoning brewing subculture in the lower east.

Coast's Dead Arm has all the beauty and taste of Russian Rivers' Plinys, with a lower abv allowing you to appreciate that a bit longer.

It definitely has a tiny bit of bitterness, but like the best of the "west coast syle IPAs", Coast has not masked the wonderful hop notes with malt, rye or yeastiness.

It has the complexity of flavors that are a bit hard to describe (like Ballast Point's Sculpin) - not quite piney and not quite citrus but something only found here, and which changes slightly at different temps, but all yummy.

Thank you Coast :)

A 12oz can with a canned on date of 2.10.16, picked up at Total Wine Columbia on a road trip through town on Easter Sunday

L - Hazy orange, no clarity, 2 fingers of creamy head, and lace left all over the top of the brew and side of the glass. Gorgeous

S - Big citrus aroma.

T - Big orange citrus flavor, nice wheat malt balance. This is a GOOD pale ale. So tasty, unlike a lot of pales

F - Medium body, crisp, high carbonation. Smooth

O - I'm blown away by a Pale Ale. Thats hard to do. Well done. This would be a go-to in my arsenal if I could get my hands on it in Atlanta

On-tap at Brewvival 2012. I believe this was a Simcoe-heavy Pale Ale that came out of the tanks just days prior to the festival. Cask.

Poured a clear gold with a soapy white head that leaves spotty lacing. Typically pretty COAST brew. Simcoe-heavy aromas of grapefruit, orange peel, and some crisp light malt. Taste is similar to the nose, super-fresh and drinkable, with more Simcoe-esque flavors of grapefruit and light malt. Not sure how this differs from the Simcoe Pale released last year, but both are damn tasty. Medium-bodied, with a very crisp mouthfeel and solid carbonation. Another great COAST Pale Ale, unpretentious and exactly what it should be!

Poured into a New Belgium snifter from a growler purchased at Green's off Piney Grove.

A: Cloudy, straw color. Nice one finger frothy foam head with minimal lacing.

S: Ultra hops. Fruity and piney.

T&M: Hop bitterness from beginning to end. A bit thin, but oh so tasty! Big citrus and mild piney notes for a great flavor. It feels medium bodied at first but thins out too much on the finish. The hop bitterness and great taste lingers though.

Love this stuff. Great drinkable ale for the summer with all the HOP flavor of a great IPA.

A bottle from Greenville Beer Exchange. A great pale ale- almost perfectly balanced. Nicely hoppy, slightly sweey and juicy, very smooth- moreish. Just delicious all around. This is one of those beers whose quality sneaks up on you- I really wish I had bought multiple bottles. Another fine piece of work from COAST.

A - Pours a yellow straw color (slightly gold) with nearly a finger of near white head. Retention is ok, after about 5 minutes it is patchy and thin. Lacing is actually pretty good.

S - Lots of citrusy and slightly grassy hop notes. Some resin and light sweet caramel malts as well.

T - Lots of light citrusy delicous refreshing flavor followed by a slightly resinous hoppy dry bitterness. Citrus (lemon and orange rinds, grapefruit) and light pepper follow and transition into a nice light malty sweetness. aftertaste is dry and resinous/citrusy. Very good.

M - Lightish bodied for sure, decent carbonation, and great brisk bitterness make this a very very drinkable, great tasting, dynamic brew.

O - See Mouthfeel. Really nice refreshing flavorful bitter brew!
