Another really well made beer from COAST - they just don't ever miss the mark. Canning date of 2/10/16 - nice to get fresh beer from COAST as their distributor sucks at getting their beer to market. Appearance is a luminous hazy golden orange - a little too hazy to get a 5 here but damn if this beer isn't visually appealing with bright, glowing color and a creamy bright white head that sticks around for the whole glass. Nose of citrus and piney hops, with a touch of melon and a little mango - Simcoe, centennial, chinook, cascade would be my guess at the hop profile. Very dry - just a touch of wheat graininess but this is a hop showcase. Quite crisp and refreshing with higher carbonation - really nicely done all the way around, as I've learned to expect from Coast. Nice job fellas

Appearance: Quite the gusher but when I looked at the date on the bottle it wasn't exactly fresh so that's my fault; cloudy and honey-colored with patches of lacing

Smell: Biscuit and melon tones; somewhat oxidized

Taste: Biscuit and a touch of caramel build the base and then the melon and tropical fruit flavors build; a moderate bitterness increases, after the swallow, with the oxidation becoming apparent on the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I have adjusted my scores somewhat to account for the old bottle; I think that when fresh this would be a very nice APA

Thanks, stevensond, for the opportunity

Pours a deep straw/pale gold producing 1.5 fingers of frothy, somewhat lasting, white head that leaves a beautiful wash of clumpy lacing. Aroma is citrusy, earthy, grassy & floral with a hint of pine resin backed by sweet caramel malt. Considerably more hoppy than the style demands. Not at all balanced as you would expect in a pale ale but puts you more in the mind of a light IPA. Taste is citrus, a heady mix of grapefruit, lemon & orange backed by bread & grain malt followed by a hoppy finish of pepper, light pine & a dry bitterness in a thin caramel malt sweetness. Dry, astringent, piney, citrus aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, smooth, creamy yet lightly peppery & briskly dry.
