650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 5/13/13.

Appearance - Clear golden body. White collar.

Smell - Musty yeast. A little bit lemony and acidic. Slight yogurt aroma. Kinda hoppy, too. Has a little bit of a mineral character.

Taste - Not as dynamic. Yogurt character and mineral character combine to be a little bit metallic. Lemon and citrus. Slightly sweet malt and a grainy bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium light. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Surprisingly good. I didn't have high hopes for this, especially since it's old, but it's got a nice citrus flavor that almost comes off as tart.

22oz bottle into a Teku glass
Bottled on: 5/13/13

COAST's first take on a saison. Self-described as "...tart, dry, and funky. With Brett".

A: Pours a hazy straw yellow, with 1.5 fingers width of white head that dissipates down at a moderate rate and leaves a fair amount of honeycomb lacing.

S: Tart lactic acidity is the first aroma I get. Sour lemon, along with grass and hay, a bit of oak. There are some spicy notes as well, subtle hop characters maybe? Some wet hay funk ties it all together. Excellent nose.

T: Funky, mildly tart, sour citrus like lemon/lime. There's an oaky-vanilla flavor that lingers in the finish. Some sweet citrus characters as well, and a faint bitterness. Brett funk builds as it warms.

M/D: Lighter bodied, carbonation initially seems low but actually holds up nicely. Crisp and refreshing with exceedingly good drinkability for a beer with a relatively high ABV. Drying on the finish leaving you eager for the next sip.

O: Another extremely well done beer by COAST. Its amazing that they never seem to miss. Hits all the elements that a Saison should have, and ties them all together beautifully without having any one character dominate. Excellent beer.

Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul!

The beer is pale golden and transparent with a small off white collar. The aroma brings citrus, alcohol, malt. Something odd in there as well. Metallic and mineral notes. Aggressive flavor and a bit harsh on the palate. Light bodied with an acetic finish. Stone fruits and yeast. Mediocre.
