Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
SanTan Hefeweizen is an unfiltered Bavarian wheat bear, effervescent and sweet, with an unmistakable banana-clove character. Often paired with a lemon or an orange, SanTan embraces this American enhancement of the beer however we still believe it is the best the way it is brewed.

On draft at The Perch Pub & Brewery, Chandler, AZ.

Hazy, yellowish body with a small white head. Aromas of grass, wheat, floral notes. Light in body with mild sweetness and subtle citrus. Pretty standard hefe flavors. Decent.

Pours clear golden color with finger width foamy head. Head retention and lacing are mild. Most Hefes that I have had have seemed to be more cloudy. The aroma consist of bananas, cloves, orange and some coriander thrown in on the side. It is a complex aroma. There is definitely a spicy clove taste followed by a more mellow banana. Again, there is a touch of coriander thrown in there. Heavy on the banana aftertaste. It is a good beer but seems to be a little more heavy on the cloves than other Hefes.

Appearance: Hazy medium golden in color, with a moderate, quite dense off-white head, and scattered, thick and patchy lacing.

Aroma: Prominent spicy wheat, earthy yeast, ripe bananas, and lemon.

Taste: Opens with spicy wheat, yeast, caramel, ripe bananas, and a modest amount of cloves. As the taste progresses, there is a significant orange rind presence. Later, some earthy hop flavors manifest themselves, bringing the taste to a balanced close.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, pleasant, fairly full, with a bit of zesty carbonation.

Drinkability/notes:A pleasant and well-crafted example.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager Sensory glass.
