Tried almost all the other SanTan brews, had to give this a try. 12 oz can poured into tulip glass.

L - Pours a dark, cola-like color. Yes, it has a rich, mahogany appearance in a certain light, so they nailed the sex panther reference. A frothy, bubbly, dark brown head disappears in seconds. Leaves little to no lacing.

S - Roasted cocoa, chocolate, cola, artificial grape, malty and bready with a touch of spice. A lot going on, but definitely chocolate-heavy.

T - Chocolate, cocoa powder, some wheat and cereal grain, coffee bitterness in the aftertaste. Good balance of bittersweet, despite being "double chocolate."

F - Light-bodied, astringent, fair amount of carbonation. I was expecting it to be a bit heavier for a double-chocolate porter, but it's smoother, creamier, and a bit watered down. Drinkable with a slightly dry finish.

O - A good representation of a porter with a sellable name. It's surprisingly drinkable with a strong cocoa presence. The white wheat balances and smooths it out. Nice as a pre or after-dinner beer.

12 oz. can:

Pours black with a creamy off-white head. Spotted lacing sticks.

The smell is of chocolate with a wheat tang. Different. A bit odd.

The taste is of chocolate/cocoa nibs with a dark wheat tang. Tastes more like a dark wheat ale than a porter. Not bad, though.

If could be fuller for a "double chocolate porter". But it's smooth and not watery. Aftertaste lingers.

A unique brew - chocolate and wheat. Interesting, though could be fuller and more aromatic and flavorful. Worth checking out.

12oz can served in some samplers. Crafted on 10/28/16.

Pours dark brown with very little head. Smell is mild porter -- roasty and chocolatey, but not too strong. Taste is strong chocolate, moderate or light vanilla. Roasty -- kind of like a strong brown ale, really.

Mouthfeel is fairly light. Overall, it's a fine beer. I won't seek it out, but I wouldn't hesitate to order it unless there were better options.

Poured from a 12oz can dated 10/29/16

It is a very dark, almost black, mahogany. Initially there was a frothy dark brown head, but by the time I sat the can down it was almost gone.

Smells pungent. It stings the nostrils... Ok, seriously it smells like cocoa powder, milk chocolate, oats, and a touch of slightly charred grains and metal.

It tastes like Nesquick cocoa powder stirred with a Twix bar. There is a little more roasted barely than in the aroma with some oatmeal flavor. The metallic taste is there in the end though to bring it down a bit. Also, the flavors don't have a lot of depth. Comes across a little watered down. There is a little bit of lingering ashiness, but more of a wheat flavor though.

The body is pretty appropriate for an American Porter, but a bit thin considering the ABV level. The carbonation is on the lower side too.

Drinkable enough, but the name is the best part. Not sure if it is made with bits of real panther or not. That may be the problem. Ok. I'm done.

Dark chocolately/coffee stouts and porters are my thing. Was excited to try this seasonal offering. I've been pretty impressed with SanTan after moving from SoCal to Phoenix, but this beer is not the best representation.

The taste is OK ...definitely more cocoa flavor than chocolate. Wouldn't call this one "double" anything. Roasted malts come through.... Wheat...Molasses... fairly drinkable. But there's something a little unsettling in the aftertaste that I can't quite put my finger on. Tastes kind of chemical. Licorice?

Definitely not a lot of body, but not necessarily in a bad way. Again, somewhat drinkable.

The big point deduction comes in the aroma. Again, something chemical. Hate to leave a mediocre review for these guys but with such provocative branding they need to bring a little more to the table. Maybe if it was called a cocoa-nut brown ale or something it would be a little more agreeable.

Pour is very dark color with a nice foamy head. Smells of chocolate, malt, coffee, and maple. Taste is exceptional, very smooth chocolate coffee flavors hit ya, you can taste malt and some candy like items like butterscotch or something in there. Very clean and refreshing beer I am a big fan of this one.

12-oz. can with an Oct. 2015 canning date on th bottom.

Poured a dark mahogany color with a moderate-large tan, frothy head. Above average lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention.

Aroma: toffee, chocolate, warm caramel, and dark fruit bread.

Flavor: chocolate, roasty malts, roasted nuts, some dark fruits. A hint of coffee in the aftertaste. More toffee than expected for style but more chocolate flavors and excellent sweet/bitter balance..

Feel: Medium+ body. Creamy texture. Lively, medium carbonation.

Overall: tasty and well worth seeking out, although not up with Youngs Double Chocolate and some others.

Picked up a case of this at TW, they where blowing it out for 3.99 a six pack. For that price I loaded up, hopefully it pans out. Popping the top I get a nice black licorice smell. Pours into a pint with a nice dark root beer color with a big tan head. On the taste this brew has a deep milk chocolate taste with some butterscotch and a nice bittersweet finish. Very silky smooth mouthfeel, good body. A decent brew and for the price, SCORE, I'm glad I picked up a case.

Bought a can of Sex Panther whilst in Ft. Lauderdale to take on a cruise. The beer poured a opaque black in color with off-white head that left a spotty lace. The scent and taste carried hints of chocolate and roast. The mouthfeel was lighter than I prefer my porters and with smooth carbonation. Overall it was ok....the name is much better than the beer.

12oz can poured into a half pint glass.canned date of 10/19/15.

looks very good off white head which dissipates to a thick ring. black/brown body.

only getting roasted malt from the noose. no chocolate at all.

taste is good, but this is billed as a double chocolate porter and i'm not finding any chocolate/cocoa at all. still tastes pretty good though.

mouth is medium.

Overall, a good tasting porter, just wish there was more chocolate.
