Pours a clear chestnut color with a tight, white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.

Smells of toasted malt and some pumpkin spices.

Tastes of the toasted malt layered with some spice and pumpkin. Malts lead off with notes of caramel, toffee, and toasted bread. This gives way to pumpkin and pumpkin spices. Notes of nutmeg, allspice, and clove come through along with some ginger. Hops add at then end with a bit of earthiness. Finishes with a bit of lingering spice.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a solid pumpkin ale.

Excellent welcome to fall. The 9% ABV provides a smooth drinkable experience. Great spice notes roll off tongue. This one will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy on those crisp fall days.

Nice color. For a pumpkin beer this has the right smell, spice and pumpkin sitting on top of a malt background somewhere in there. Or is it pumpkin spices on top of malt. I get the pumpkin in the flavor big time and some background spices and malt with a bit of alcohol (and I'm a few ratings in here). I'm gonna say one of the better pumpkin ales especially at 9% ! Decent carbonation with this beer which works.

This, by far, is the best pumpkin ale I've ever had! Just wanted a pumpkin beer at a British Pub (Kings Corner in Jenkintown) and my waiter asked if I'd like the "Devious Pumpkin" and I just said yes! I was so glad I agreed! Best ever! Love it! 5 stars!

Finally a pumpkin beer I can get behind! Actually, I think I reviewed this beer years ago and it got deleted, but I saw it on the shelf at Whole Foods and was reminded of it, and I had to have it. In fact, I liked it so much that I picked up more last night! It's just so malty, and not over-spiced, or too hot with alcohol - no, this is a dangerous beast, you need to be careful with it. In my previous review which was lost I recall commenting on how in my neighborhood the adults would have coolers full of beer available out front so the parents could have a little bit of a good time too, and how I had brought a Devious with me and just couldn't pick up anything else after that. One of the best "pumpkin" beers I've ever had.

A bit more spice scent than taste. Flavor is good with a real kick from the alcohol.

DATE TASTED: October 30, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... OCCASION: Another successful high school homecoming game... APPEARANCE: dark, almost mahogany brown body that densely conceals the other side of the glass; tough to see any bubbles; the head is a staunch white halo of bubble and smears; good, thick lacing that resembles Japanese artwork... AROMA: pumpkin, phenol and surprisingly thick dough at the start; caramel is interwoven with a vodka or rum base that suggests the alcohol that 9% brings... PALATE: warming immediately; dissipating aftertaste; medium-bodied, flat carbonation, with no fanfare at its end... TASTE: tough to get past the phenolic presence; the malts are strong and overpower other flavors--such as pumpkin(!)--and leave a plasticine ending ... OVERALL: not at all up to my expectations, with the majority of the experience centering on the awkward, medicinal flavor....a strong, demanding seasonal that needs more nuance to be memorable or sought out...
