Notes: Formerly Night Train

Night Rain is a complex oatmeal porter crafted with ridiculous amounts of crystal and Munich malts to create a rich, smooth, and creamy experience. ‚Äč

(Served in an American pint glass)
A- This beer pours a dense black body with a thin ring of tan head with a few bubbles visible close to head.
S- This beer has a slightly sweet full crystal malt aroma that is almost sweaty and grows into a gym sock aroma as it warms.
T- This beer has a softly sweet crystal malt flavor with some dark roasted malt finish. This turns more chocolaty as the beer warms. The finish is a nice roasted chocolate malt flavor with a mineral water flavor.
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a tight fizz and a light black malt tartness in the finish.
D- This beer a big crystal malt bomb with a bit of an odd aroma but a pleasant taste, just a bit different.

Near black body; intensely dense, foamy head. Charred grain aroma with notes of roasted coffee. The taste mimics the aroma with additions of bitter chocolate and an intense, complementary hop bitterness; cocoa. Heavy body; thick and chewy; primarily dry finish on the palate.

This beer is intense, rich and seductive with dark grain flavors and a well-balanced hop bitterness. Deeply complex and exceptionally balanced.

Definitely the best of the O'so beers I've tried so far, but that's not saying much. Still, if you like roasty, then you'll like this beer.

Appearance is black with a centimeter or two of head coaxed out by a hard pour. Body looks a little thin. Aroma is roasty but full of diacetyl. Flavor is tons of "burned pizza crust" flavor...if there were a "burned pizza crust" flavored syrup, I would suspect there is some in this beer (there's not that I know of). Mouthfeel is a touch thin.

A pretty good porter, and the first beer from O'so I've tried that I would characterize as anything other than disappointing. I bought this bottle as a 12oz single from Three Cellars in Franklin, WI.

Appearance: Pours fudge brown capped by an inch of tannish foam; a few dots of lace hang around the side of the glass

Smell: Roast, chocolate and a resinous dose of hops

Taste: Roast and chocolate, up front, with resinous hops building in the middle; coffee tones appear, after the swallow, with some more chocolate rounding out the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice robust porter; the body is a little thin but otherwise the beer is pretty darn good

This is a straight on, just plain good ol' beer. Served with an great light tan foamy frothy head that lasts all the way down and good lace. Color is an opaque dark brown. Aroma is rich, roasty, malty, earthy, some cocoa, a bit of coffee and a hint of beer bitterness. Flavor's about the same but lots more of it. Great body and carbonation. Good finish although a bit boozy. Could be a slower session beer. Solid beer.

12 ounce bottle- ahh Night Train- one of my favourite GnR tunes and fortified wines.. pours a tar black with next to no head, some tan lacing. Stewed fruit, raisins, light roast. Taste- powdered and bittersweet chocolate, anise and more light roast. A big porter but well balanced. Thicker than average mouthfeel- more stout like. Decent

Romanticizing over the classic porter, the brewers of O'so layer the traditional, masculine but balanced taste with an American edge. Drier, toastier, and flirting with a roasty side, the stronger ale seems a tad much. But the counterpart of oatmeal brings the softness back around for an ale that's woven together with tethers of chocolate stout.

Its dark bark-brown pour carries a medium cocoa haze and a lathery off-white froth, wafting about to release a gentlemanly perfume of coffee, toast, chocolate and walnut with a savory off-smoky scent. Earthen in taste, the beer's boldly rolling sweetness is toasty, candied and deeply caramlized to the brink of toffee and butter pecan.

The middle palate shows a gradual fade of sweetness and a sligth bitterness and dryness set in to reinforce the taste of dark-roast coffee, bittersweet chocolate, candied walnut and heavy toast. Just shy of roast or burnt flavor, the beer's earthy bitterness seems chicory-like with hints of vanilla and cream to balance the soil and bark.

Its medium-full body is given a heft with its masculine taste and its rich and creamy texture. Aspects of mocha-latte also adds to the beer's luxurious mouthfeel. Finishing bittersweet with coffee and chocolate gives the session a pleasant and mild dessert-like quality.

This beer pours a dark brown color. The head is a quarter inch in height, and recedes quickly into minimal lacing. The aroma is of roasted malt, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, and hints of roasted coffee grounds. It is a rather strong aroma too. The taste is similar to the aroma with tons of roasted malt, and equal strength. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a smooth texture. Overall, this is a good beer that I would drink again.
