Stopped by here with daughter Caitlin on 30SEP07, prior to taking the Pilsner Urquell brewery tour. Na Spilce sits on the brewery grounds, across from the visitors center.

After passing through the famous archway leading onto the brewery grounds, Na Spilce is on the right, in a fairly modern building. Upon entering you see some displays of brewery wares and bier-related odds and such. Proceed down a set of stairs and go right at the bottom into the restaurant. It is a large, bier-hall type place. You encounter arches, big-ass wooden pillars and vaulted ceilings here. Lighting is dim to medium, giving the place a warm feel. There were numerous tables lined up all over, seating from 2 to 8 people. Local music was playing (at a decent level) while a large screen TV was suspended on one wall. There was plenty of staff roaming around, and you weren't "married" to your initial server. Food and drink were brought out by the next available waiter/waittress. Staff was quite helpful, too, with translation problems, and a couple hammed it up a bit while I was wandering around taking some pix. Their menus came with Czech, German and English descriptions; very nice touch. The food selections were quite numerous, with many options from light appetizers to large platters meant to be shared by 2-3 people. I had a gulasch served in a hollowed-out bread "bowl", while Caitlin had some wurst and frittes. Very tasty stuff. Bier-wise, I quaffed a pleasing dark-lager, Velke Popopovice Kozel Tmave. They also had Pilsner Urquell (of course!), a Gambrinus selection, plus one more that escapes me. Prices were reasonable, with the above food/bier plus a small pretzel, a soda and tip coming to about $13.00. We both found our time at Na Spilce to be quite enjoyable. A savory meal and a refreshing bier with old-world atmosphere? Go for it!!

Zum wohl!!
