Pleasantly surprised with this CA craft brewery version of the Bavarian classic. Heavy banana dominates the aroma and taste which was followed buy a nearly perfectly balanced hefe with plenty of malt, a hint of tartness and a thick bready mouthfeel. The high price is justified as respect to the hundreds of years German brewers spent perfecting the style, even though they can now produce it for less than a half of the price this beer is offered at. Still, happy to find a local craft brewery producing a version that strives to only improve on the best aspects.

With a bold, opaque straw color, it has tastes of pear with a stark splotch of lemon and some ginger. There is banana in the aroma, with a minor yeasty aftertaste boasting a near-lively carbonation. Overall, this is a great hefeweizen, but it ranks a few notched below the highly recommended Karl Strauss’ Hefeweizen and La Cumbre Brewing’s A Slice of Hefen.

Hazy orange hue this one. Small fluff sits atop, with soft carbonation and no lace.
Smell and aroma go hand-in-hand; lots of clove up front, wheat, yeast, bread, straw, malt, light pear and, of course, banana comes through heavy. Medium-bodied, a bit dry. The flavours are there but are missing that pop. Just a straightforward take on the style with no wow factor, but altogether not a horrible beer.
