Three fingers of big bubbly white head arise above a dull copper, slightly hazy, body. Very good dense lacing.

Assertive citrus aroma features plenty of orange, backed by pine.

Sweet beginning, sweeter than expected, and the sweetness lasts throughout. Hops rise and crest, and battle to take a fruity hold for awhile. Not for long though. No alcohol burn, but a definite sense that its there.

Thick, heavy almost syrupy mouthfeel.

Sweet and sluggish dampens drinkability.

Not really what I'm looking for in a IIPA, and a bit high at $8.35/bomber.

This is an okay beer, but, relative to other DIPAs, it's just mediocre. It pours a color that's right about average for the style, a transparent amber-orange. The head is sudsy with lots of fine, foamy bubbles. The aroma is fairly weak, mostly pine resin hops with some grapefruit rind and a touch of tropical fruit. There's very little bright, fresh hoppiness, though this bottle should be fresh, judging by when it arrived in local stores. Some caramel malt. The flavor has some good bitterness, but, otherwise, it's fairly disappointing. It's a touch too malt sweet at first and altogether too little complexity. The aftertaste is blandly bitter with a note of stale grain. Mouthfeel has nice hop oiliness but is fairly thin and maybe a bit overcarbonated. I rather liked Mission's IPA, but this one just can't compete in the already overcrowded style.

Poured from a bottle into a Chimay goblet

A- pours dark orange with a one finger slightly offwhite head. Head doesn't stick around for too long, but laces pretty nicely

S- strong citrus aroma. Smells damn lovely, and is pretty pungent...not really searching around for the scent in this one

T- and unfortunately, this is where the goodness of the beer ends. I am tasting next to no hops at all. Just pure nothingness. Wait, there's a very slight bitter finish. That's it. Tastes like water

M- it's THICK, which makes no sense given the lack of hoppiness to it. Thick water = very offputting

O- I thought this was going to be a star after the pour and first whiff of it. Then it really hit the fan. No dating on the bottle, so I have no idea how old this is. A shame, really

A little darker than average copper color, 3/4" white head, good retention, lace was spotty and inconsistent. Aroma was full on bitterness and alcohol with no in between.

Taste was heavy on the caramel, heavy on the alcohol, heavy on the bitterness. There are no fine touches, there is almost nothing in terms of flavor, just a big heavy malt presence and ample bitterness to go with it.

Bomber format, so they make you pay extra per/oz for this pedestrian, below average stuff. One trick pony here, the usual heavy crystal malt, heavy bitterness, we made a dipa platform.

Copper pour, decent white head to it with above average retention. Aroma was just bitter and alcohol, not much in the way of hop aromatics.

Pretty bitter and heavy malt bill. So uh, where did the flavor hops go? Bittering hops, sure. But maybe they could have done some dry or flavor hopping additions? Or better ones? Plenty of caramel, but if you're looking for a big mouthfeel of hops, citrus, pine etc. . . you're going to have to keep looking.

Haven't been all that impressed with Mission, they seem like so many johnny come lately's with their simple minded ipa's that are all bitterness and not much else.

Draft at Hamilton's in San Diego.

Pours a hazy dark golden orange color with a half finger white head that immediately disappears. Not much in the way of lacing.

Slightly earthy aroma with very muted hop character.  Subtle grass, pine and floral hops with a touch of citrus and lots of alcohol.

Medium bodied with a strong bitter hop presence up front that's quickly countered by tropical fruit and alcohol.  Again, the hops are muted by light fruit and sweet booze.  Hints of apricot,  pineapple, grapefruit and orange peel but it's kind of weak.

This isn't the greatest beer. It is a middle of the road DIPA. It certainly isn't Pliny. It is drinkable and I don't regret buying it. It is lacking any real hop flavor. The best thing about this beer is the mouth feel. It is neither too thick or too thin. Overall, I'd be disappointed if I made this at home.

Mission St.'s Shipwreck is a strange brew, and maybe conditioned by my surroundings, which include nuts and chips and a little of that grounded dust that they line shuffleboard tables with. But the aroma gives off a ground yellow corn scent, with a dusky earthiness, and a smooth cashew note, like cashew butter. The flavor expands on the nut/legume theme with tons of sweet peanuts in the flavor, and that burnt caramel note that comes out of the classic Bit-O-Honey, cloying and large. If you like your caramel burnt and blackened, there's a lot to like about this taste. But I prefer mine milder, which gives the Shipwreck an off-putting flavor.

A- pours a deep almost reddish amber color with a finger and a half of off white head.

S- sugary candied with a touch of toffee hits the nose at first. Some spicy disjointed alcohol comes out in the middle. Some hops drown under the big malt bill. A touch of tropical fruit and grapefruit comes out but quickly gets smothered.

T- very malty brew indeed. Caramel and candied apple flavors hit the palate at first. Astringent phenolic alcohol clashes with initial malt burst. Weak hop flavor gives a hint of tropical fruit and candied orange. Finishes sweet with a doughy boozy aftertaste.

MF- sticky slick mouthfeel with a medium body and light medium carbonation.

This was recommended to me by a clerk at a beer store. Poured into a glass, it is a pretty beer with a notable orangy color and nice head. Very clear. The smell is syrupy, sweet and with some yeast flavor. The taste is too, except worse. It's very boozy and I can hardly detect any hop presence. It does not taste anything like a DIPA to me. I'm trying to be generous in my review because it's possible the bottles were very old, but this is one of the worst DIPA's I've ever had.
