Light/medium consistency, strong and refreshing, with a rich first taste that blossoms out in complexity, a good rich taste.

Shipwrecked Double IPA ranks among the most flavorful and rich of American Doubles/Imperials.

When I think of the flavorful thicker side of this genre this beer inevitably flashed before me, an artifact of my encounters with this fine brew. Some American double's present to the drinker a sort of smoothed out version of the hops taste, very flavorful and drinkable and rich, but not quite of that ale like quality of flavor.

Shipwrecked pushes the beer-flavor spectrum to its rich periphery. It gives one a sort of piece-de-resistance among American Doubles/Imperials and to me at least represents a sort of great example of the sort of tastiness that this genre of brew can represent.

Really a satisfying beer to savor.

Huge 32oz can brought to you by Doopie. Cheers man!

From a crowler into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a three finger, medium looking, foamy white head with great retention. Hazy rust orange with higher levels of carbonation for the style. Head slowly fades to a foamy cap with foamy lacing down the glass. A ring and splotchy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing behind as the glass empties.

SMELL: Pale malts, caramel, cantaloupe and melon aromas on the nose.

TASTE: Caramel malts with cantaloupe and melon flavors at the swallow. Bold finish with sweet melon, alcohol, some soapy notes and hop bitterness lingers on the palate.

PALATE: Medium body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly dry. A touch of heat lingers.

OVERALL: Good stuff. A very malt forward interpretation of the style, but that's not a bad thing. This one is also rather bitter but lacks the accompanying hop character somewhat. Still, an enjoyable drink and a fun experience. Cheers dude!

Very smooth IPA. A lot of IPAs are too bitter for me, but this one is a pretty easy drinking IPA. Rich dark color, not very carbonated, clean aftertatste, overall a good beer.

That is one hell of a BIG can. Aside from some interesting oniony/garlicky hop notes on the nose and palate, and a refreshing lemony note on the flavor, this was a pretty standard DIPA. BIG. Big can, big boozy note. A pretty good brew to round out a brew day that's for sure. This one might not get the prize for the most sophisticated brew, etc. but it will sure get the job done.

22oz bomber into a solo cup.

A: Really nice! Pours a slightly hazy deep copper/orange with a 1/2" off-white head that recedes slowly. Lacing is killer.

S: Marmalade-like citrus notes. Very resinous. Some graham-cracker maltiness. Not bad, but smells like so many other DIPAs.

T: Brutally bitter up front, followed through the mid-palate with grapefruit & pine. A bit of caramelly malt. Figs. Slightly medicinal working into the finish, which is also burly & hop-bitter. Booze is present but not cloying. I actually like the balance here, clearly big-boy bitterness was the goal & it was well-achieved.

M: Mostly typical DIPA stuff, only with a bit more carb than usual. Heavy, slick & oily but tempered a bit by the bubbles. I prefer it to some of the more syrupy DIPAs, I really think the feel matches the flavor profile.

O: I'm impressed. I love that the focus here was 'bitter' & not 'complex'. It's less sweet & more aggressive than many others out there in this style. Everyone needs a good punch in the mouth now & again.

Not overly Hoppy and citrusy. Good mouth feel, solid dipa flavor, nothing amazing but I don't think it's trying to be. Overall real tasty and you can find it in a 32oz can, bonus.

L: Amber, very slight haze. 1” fluffy foam head, slight orange tint, foam has fairly small bubbles. Thick ledges of lace cling to the glass.
S: fresh, spicy, floral, herbal, light fruit
T: Starts with light caramel and biscuit supporting fruity, citrusy yeast and hop flavors. The hops are big but are as much about flavor as bitterness.
F: Creamy, very soft in the mouth, medium body, medium carbonation.
O: A nice big beer that you can drink instead of a bourbon or a gin and tonic.

They sell this in 1 quart cans at the local grocery store. It's often on sale for 7 bucks, but usually around 9. All that, and it's a very decent beer. My only complaint is that I always spill the first few drops when trying to pour from a full can.
