Alright, I feel I can say a lot about Shangy's because I used to work there. This place has a cooler the size of most beer stores. It has a warehouse the size of a football field (seriously). The man who runs the place and his son are always trying to get more and more beer added to their stock of over 2,000 beers, that's right 2000! You name it. It has a domestic and an import side. If you want Coors Light, don't ask where it is because you will be ignored. It is a store for people that respect beer. Here are some hints at how to shop at Shangy's:
1) Take your time! There is a lot to look at!
2) If you aren't sure of where something is, be sure to ask because chances are they have it somewhere, although things are always stocked. They are very anal about things being stocked up to the minute (even on Friday nights). Personally working there was not a lot of fun, but I got in good shape and learned a ton about beer.
3) If you have a draft system, they have a keg list. They have half barrels and sixlets of tons of good stuff. A lot of Microbrews.
4) If you are having a party and need a lot of beer, DO NOT go anywhere else. They go out of their way to have the lowest prices on everything because they sell in bulk. They deliver beer to restaurants up in the Poconos, in Center City, everywhere...Chances are they even deliver beer to your distributor!
5) Try something new when you are there or get a bunch of your friends and all buy cases and than divide them up into 6 packs..that is a tip for you Jersey people that don't like the PA law on cases.

Okay, everyone seems to being giving this place 5's all around, but I can't do that because the one guy working the store was on the phone the entire half hour that I was browsing. I couldn't ask him any questions. Since I've only been here once, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Selection is very, very good, but I would have to give a slight advantage to The Beer Yard for variety. Prices were good and the beer I bought was fresh, but I did see a stack of SN Celebration bottled on 11/4/01. It was on sale for $20 I believe, but still......

When you walk through the doors to Shangy's you will think you've died and gone to beer heaven. It's a beautiful bright and clean store.
All of their beers are sold by the case (of course) and are stacked very neatly in small beeramids throughout the store, or stacked up against the wall. The stacks are spaced so you can walk in and out of the aisles. Every stack of beer has a big price sign on it so there is no guessing. The prices are very good. I got a North Coast sampler case for $23 and a Rock Creek sampler for $20. I really did not need any more beer (dare I say!), since I have a full fridge, but you cannot visit this store and not buy anything. Great Belguim selection, German, American micros, Macros, you name it. The staff was friendly and helpful.

There was even an employee giving DeGroen samples outside the front doors (yes, please!).

One negative thing was that it would be nice if they had a catalog listing all of their beers. This place is a gem for any beer lover.

I finally got off of my lazy but and took a trip to Shangy’s. It wasn’t really that far since I was already in Phillipsburg, NJ buying an air conditioner. We made the 15-20 minute drive, and boy was it worth it. Big place with rows and rows of cases. Even though the first beer I saw was a 30pk of Coors Original, I knew I was in the right place since it was only $13.99 (I think) compared to $16.99 in New Jersey. Wonderful selection that other have talked about so I won’t. I really like making trips out of state for beer because you can indulge in micros that aren’t distributed in your state. For me, this resulted in a case of DeGroen’s Marzen and a Rock Creek Sampler. I had to get a sampler to make up for the whole case thing. Plus, money was tight and it was only $21.99. My favorite thing was the absence of shopping carts. Since all the beer came in cases it would be impossible to fit more than a few into a conventional cart. Instead, there is a like of hand trucks by the entrance. Great!

Yes the Beer place/heaven. Huge selection and great prices make this a must visit if you are even remotely close to the Allentown area. You could get lost in this store with all the choices and fresh beer ware. Must say it is hard to beat for price and selection anywhere.

If there is a heaven on Earth I certainly have found it. Shangy's is incredible. Not only do they have a great selection of micro brews but they have those hard to find imports that you only read about. Definitely worth the trip if you are in the area.
Shangy's also has a great selection of glassware from pints to goblets. If you ask for it they probably have or can order it for you.

Yes my friedn goindownsouth took me here on my recent trip to PA and I can agree with all that he said about this place. If in PA and you like beer it is your Mecca........the only drawback is they only sell cases, so you have to choose from so many...........CHEERS

I do not know how else to say this - You must see this place. A gentleman and his son operate this Beer Temple, and keep a great supply of certain staples like Duvel, for example. Prices are as good as anyone, anywhere. Period. What's more, the older man and his son are as knowledgeable about beer as anyone. If you walk in there asking for a good micro sample case, they will show you something that is not only rare, but well worth it. Tey do not sell you anything, they simply show you what is good and offer tons of options. In fact, they supply my fave pub with most of its brews. This place is The Beer Authority. My best friend, having made the drive to Pennsylvania from South Carolina, was in awe of the selection and prices. He wound up taking a few cases home of things that simply cannot be found in most locations. Whether it is German, Belgian, Oriental, American, English, Mainstream, Micro, whatever have you, this is the place to go. Well worth a long drive to get there! Bottoms Up!
