I live almost literally across the street from Davidson Brothers Pub and Brewery, so needless to say I'm a bit bias. As far as I'm concerned, this place is part of what makes Glens Falls unique, and I can honestly say it may be the heart of this quiet, bristling foothills town. I love everything about this place, and just to have a brewery in downtown GF is a treat, and I will continue to patronize this place until I leave this beautiful part of the world.

Now on to the critical part:
Davidson Brothers beer is good. Not great. Good. It suffers from an intangible quality that creates a universally creamy texture and flat flavor across all beers brewed here. Perhaps they put too much yeast in, or ferment it for too long, but the great flavor of the beers is lost in a sea of funky texture. A good example of what's wrong: compare an IPA from the tap to one out of the bottle. The DB IPA brewed and bottled by Harpoon (I believe) tastes much more crisp and bright than the DB IPA from the tap at the brewery. This is my only complaint about the place.

As far as what they do well, I love their rotating stock. They take criticism extremely well, and I have more than once received a 25% off card in the mail for filling out one of the review cards that came with the check. In the 3 years I've frequented the place they have changed up their menu and their look to reflect the suggestions of people who frequent the place. Rick Davidson is always on hand to ensure quality in service and atmosphere in the restaurant. They reward repeat customers by changing up their brewer's choice beer every chance they get, and even create special beers like the Strong Ale and the yuletide Belgian Trippel, which is quite a treat. Only locals benefit from this as the only beer they bottle is the Dacker and the IPA (I believe no longer the brown.)

All things considered, this place is a gem in the middle of a town on the grow, and I hope people visit just to say they've experienced true North Country hospitality, and had some good beer with it!

Of course I always like to try new places when I travel, and today that place was Davidson Brothers. Classic basic pub vibe, nice bar and plenty of seating. Rustic wood and random paraphernalia everywhere. There was a decent selection of beer to choose from, with many different styles. Unfortunately, the beers were pretty much terrible. Like, every one was bad in the sampler of 6 that I had. They all had very bad off-flavors, and we (the wife and I) pretty much had to choke them down. They were like very bad homebrews, done with obvious amateur mistakes. But they sell bottles by the case here, and have apparently been brewing for 20 years, so I guess someone is buying this swill and enjoying it.

Service was okay, not great. One thing that was a major turn-off was the automatically added tip to the bill. I'm a good tipper, only giving less than 18-20% if there's a major issue with the service. But regardless, tipping is at my discretion, and should be on my terms. I might want to give more or less, depending on what happened during the visit. Overall, adding an auto tip might be a good idea, to keep cheapskates from copping out, but I still personally don't approve. Just another reason to keep me from coming back here.

The food was also okay, not great. Basic pub grub on the menu for the most part. I had the turkey melt, which was decent.

Overall, this seems like no more than a homer spot. Locals probably love it, since it's been in business so long. But with lousy beer, so-so service, and mediocre food, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go to this place, and I definitely won't be going back.

I had high hopes for this one. The atmosphere is great, the food was good, the beer was nothing special but some of their stuff was alright. Unfortunately, the service was horrendous I really hope it was just our waitress but she was miserable

Next to Blue Monk and CH Evans, one of the pioneers with a great location and atmosphere.

Good beer selection, decent food - great deep fried pickles. I have had terrible front end service each time I have eaten there...

Been revisiting Davidson's from time to time in hopes that i might not be disappointed. I'm really not one to send a beer back to the bar but had to with their scottish ale. At least the batch i got was undrinkable. I am mostly an IPA drinker (with a broad range of appreciation) and have only had mediocre at best from these guys.

update: DO NOT GO HERE. owner is an asshole. physically and verbally abuses the staff. on top of that, refuses to allow staff to collect tips for their work. beer still sucks.
