Bottled date 12/07/16, purchased at Right Brain Brewery in Traverse City, MI

Appearance - Pour dark cola brown with a tan, near finger width head. Good retention before peeling back to a thin, broken layer of surface suds. Fair lacing, mostly small spots and a small number of broken lines.

Smell - Mostly malty with notes of roast and a sweeter toffee character, but an underlying earthy hop character is present.

Taste - Follows the nose. More malty than hoppy; fair roast that is quickly eaten up by the sweeter notes of toffee and caramel. Distant hops bring a semblance of balance with some earthen, tea-like leaf character. Finishes much the same, with lingering toffee sweetness met by that leafy tea flavor, both of which linger long into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light, tingly carbonation. Slick texture with a slightly dry finish.

Overall - For being 10+ months old it's aged well, but I can't help but to feel a bit cheated, as they told me they didn't have it on tap but they did have it in their to-go fridge. What they failed to tell me, however was that it was as old as it was. I suppose I'm partially to blame for trusting a brewery to keep fresh beer in stock, but whatever. I'm getting sidetracked. Despite the obvious hop degradation, this is still a nice drinker as the malt body has developed nicely. If I had to describe it in layman's terms, I'd say it drinks like a light-bodied dark barleywine,

Very similar in appearance to its cousin Concrete Dinosaur, just a touch darker but with the same khaki head. Taste and flavor of roasty cocoa and bright floral hoppy notes. Contrast of bright and light hops and creamy roasty notes make for a pleasant experience.

A Wet Hopped American double IPA, good hoppy nose, well balance malt/hops on the front end and nice hop finish. I had it as part of a flight of Spinal Tapper, Smooth Operator, Park Ale, Satisfaction and Nitro CEO Stout. Not a session Ale at 8% but a couple of pints with friends over good conversation make this a winner.
