Poured from a growler into a standard pint glass.

This ber has a more inviting appearance when poured from the growler rather than on tap at the RBB. Great two inch head and a thick lace, golden straw in color and clear.

Smell is earthy hay, pine needles and musty citrus rinds.

Taste is exceptional citrus and pine with an earthy and ever so slight mineral finish. Dry and every sip invites another.

Very quaffable. I enjoyed the growler more than the straight pub pour (go figure?). Exceptional brew...

Take some home and enjoy!

Retired - Not yet - just came out in bottles this month May 2013 - it's alive

and it looks like it is better than back in '11

DAMN, I bought four bottles at the brewery on the first week of March '13 and it cost me $45.00. Okay, it was not Dead kettle but it was a bunch of birds - Looping Owl and Hawk what-ever. (all bottle cost the same - when I was at the brewery) And from the first sip (I have not started the review yet) this Dead Kettle is far better than that bird stuff. Okay, I am done venting. No not really.

color: copper;
clarity: light -moderate misty when poured;
one and half finger bone colored head;
head did not stay around long (story of my marriage);
good lacing that sticks to the glass;
$6.99 a bottle now - two months later -

Aroma: Damn a beer that smells good, I just did a bunch of Samuel Adams that hardly had any aroma … I started to think my nose did not work; this beer has citrus big time, it reminds me of citrus meat from a grapefruit salad; you are drinking an IPA do any other notes matter! Only 6.99 a bottle. Okay, there are some bready malts to soften the blow.

Flavor: Grapefruit front and center; a little pink grapefruit and plenty of white grapefruit; toasted grains in the mix; shit I paid 45 bucks for four bottles at the brewery.

Mouthfeel: solid bitterness, grapefruit all the way, low-moderate carbonation, wool like texture, a solid IPA all the way, only $6.99 at the store I go to and I paid $11.25 at the brewery.

To the Point: Flavors – it’s citrus; Mouthfeel – it’s citrus bitter; Style – it’s IPA; what else matters. I would buy this again but, not at the brewery! Damn $45.00 for 4 bottles and this one bottle only cost $6.99 at Super Fine Wine and Liquor in Canton Michigan – did I say that before – Don’t buy it at the brewery!

Glad to see this in cans now. Amber and translucent, decent foamy head. Piney and a bit citrusy in the nose, and the taste follows along masterfully. Finishes tidy and neat, not overly dry and not over sweet either. Nice beer.

Sampled on 8-8-09

Pours a hazy golden orange color, with a craggy white head and fantastic lacing.

Smell is all super-buttery sweat sock hops. Very fruity, slight alcohol edge, and sizable malt.

Taste is just like the smell, big sweet hops, and huge bitter and slick sweet finish. Very strong, and gets a little old.

Mouthfeel is thick, slick, and viscous. Fits well.

Drinkability is good, if you're looking for a super-sweet super-hoppy beer.

Overall, do it.

Thanks to david131 for half a growler.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy and cloudy pale orange amber color with a nice 2-3 finger dense and fluffy off white head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass; with some moderate streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of orange zest, lemon zest, grapefruit, orange rind, tangerine, floral, pine, grass, light caramel, light honey, bread, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop notes with a light-moderate malt balance; and good strength. Taste of orange zest, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange rind, tangerine, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, light honey, bread, and floral earthiness. Good amount of earthy pine resin bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pine, floral, light caramel, honey, bread, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of citrus/pine hop flavors; with a fair amount of malt balance and minimal cloying bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very cirsp and sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA! All around nice balance and complexity of citrus/pine hop notes with a fair amount of malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

A - Golden orange / amber color with 3 fingers of puffy white head. Leave a nice lacy cling to the glass with each drink and the head reduces to an impressive quarter inch white cap.

S - Extremely floral with hops and citrus notes.

T - Follows suit with the nose - nice citrus hop punch that balances really nice with a pleasant malt back bone. Finishes with a smack of bitterness.

O - This is a really nice IPA and my first offering from Right Brain. I will certainly come back to this an more from RB. Nice job.
