On tap, Michigan Summer Beerfest 2013. Heard this was a strawberry flavored cream ale (despite the "American Blond Ale" listing on this site). I love cream ale. I love strawberry. Seems like a match made in heaven. Hazy, golden-yellow with a pretty raunchy, unfiltered look to it. Sometimes cream ales are a little more filtered looking, but they don't have to be. Just about no head, and even the thin, white collar is short-lived and unimpressive.

Strawberry Pez. I don't know what else to say or how else to say it. The aroma is pretty one-track minded overall, and the track that it's on is one made of artificially flavored, strawberry candy. It's got mild, sugary undertones (just like the candy) and a somewhat artificial aspect to it, that, despite my love for freshness and purity, isn't really as off-putting as it sounds. Not much else going on, but the smell of strawberry Pez is taking me back to my days as a kid with the Donald Duck dispenser.

The mouth feel on this sucker is superb, and duly noted from the first sip that I take. Creamy, creamy, creamy; far creamier than I expected, even. The lager yeast is noticeable as well, adding a level of clean and crisp flavor like no other ale yeast could do. Mild pale malt sweetness floats about with some strawberry and grain notes scattered between. Pale malts in the finish, with a light kiss of fruitiness. The "Pez" aspect is lost on the palate, but still very much present in the aroma, noted each time I lean in for a sip.

I would have liked a little more complexity out of this one, especially in the aroma, but the flavor definitely picked up some slack. Nice, light strawberry inclusion with notable lager-y yeast and a substantial amount of grains. The mouth feel was great, and really helps this already easy drinking beer go down even easier. Not a world beater by any means, but a very nice beer to sit out and relax on a hot summer day with.

Notes from 5/16/11

A - Pours a hazy gold/straw color with one finger of off-white head.

S - Nice smell of strawberry. The aroma is there without detectable sweetness. Also, a bit of bread. Overall, aroma is subtle but nice.

T - Lots of subtle strawberry, again without any real sweetness. Simple but tasty.

M - Very light mouthfeel. A little watery, but pretty refreshing. Low carbonation. Faint amount of bitterness on the finish.

O - Simple, but nice. And, thankfully, very low sweetness. This would be a great beer for a hot summer day.

I had this on-tap at the brewpub. Served in a sample glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy yellow, looks a bit like pear juice. There is a half finger of fluffy white head with a good amount of lacing.

Smell: Light and crisp. There is a mild sweetness to the smell, but not much fruit to be found.

Taste: This is a really nice, light beer. Crisp and mildly fruity. I'm picking up the grain along with a slightly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with fluffy carbonation and a mildly dry finish.

Overall: Not my favorite style, but I enjoyed this beer. I thought it was crisp and easy to drink. The strawberry was extremely mild.

A- Pours a hazy, luminiscent orange liquid with a thin white head.

S- Strawberries and bread. Reminds me of strawberry jam and toast. Interesting.

T- Strawberries and bread. Very tasty with not much sweetness.

M- Smooth with a nice carbonated aspect to lighten things up.

O- A very enjoyable fruit beer that keeps the sweetness in check. Would be fantastic on a hot summer day.
