Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A sweet nose greets the adventurous in this marriage of our Black Betty Russian Imperial Stout and a 6-month aging in 50 year old American brandy barrels. From the Black Betty base, rich chocolate aromatics play delightfully against a coffee-like impression. An elegantly pleasant surprise wakes the palate, which migrates from a hint of brandy into a wonderfully lingering roasted malt character.

On tap at Nebraska Brewing Co. during the Nebraska Hop Cup, served in a snifter.

Appearance - Pitch black.

Smell - Big chocolate, coffee and barrel nose.

Taste - Lots of dark chocolate, little coffe and plenty of barrel notes.

Mouthfeel - Full bodied. Thick and chewy. Low carbonation.

Overall - The brandy really shines here. Little bit of heat on this fresh batch. Should cellar nicely. Very nice stout!

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a finger high dense tan head that died down but consistently left a short head covering the surface and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of dark chocolate malts and bits of roast are present in the nose along with notes of brandy, the latter of which becomes a little stronger as the beer warms up. Some hints of licorice are also perceptible.
T: The taste has flavors of dark malts and bits of chocolate with notes of brandy from the barrel aging.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount carbonation.
O: This beer tastes first and foremost like a stout because the brandy isn't too strong, but rather accentuates the taste. It also is rather drinkable considering the strength because it does a very good job at hiding its alcohol.
