On-tap 2/22/2011 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains a lot of smoke along with roasted malts, some coffee and a faint bit of hops.

T: The taste is likewise very smoky throughout and has a hearty roasted malt character. There are complementary background flavors of coffee and chocolate along with a faint hops presence. The after-taste is also smoky.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style while using the heavy smokiness well, this is definitely a very solid smoky beer worth drinking for a long time if that's what you're in the mood for.

A: Black...very black with nearly zero head (though it was served in a goblet which tends to minimize head retention); lacing is minimal

S: Muted and subtle aromas--but the smoke does prevail; it's almost a smoked fish presence; salty and meaty; there is also a roasted malt presence but it's still rather subdued

T: Lots more smokiness in the flavor than the aromas indicate: a ham and fish smoky quality; a bit salty; roasted malts and coffee and chocolate balance out the dominating smoke quality

F: Quite a bit thin and yet the beer becomes somewhat creamy as it moves to the back of the mouth

D: A really drinkable smoked porter; the smokiness is quite prevalent but it doesn't completely dominate the beer throwing off the balance; Nebraska Brewing does yet another good job here
