A: Dark black with a thin but steady cocoa brown head; lacing is quite good

S: Lots of alcohol and oak; this is roasty and boozy but so strong on booze with subtle coffee, chocolate and dark fruit

T: The alcohol is much more subdued in the flavors with chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, and some subtle vinous qualities; this is still quite boozy but it comes together better--much better than expected

F: Decent mouth feel: sticky and oily

O: An interesting, boozy beer; good work Nebraska Brewing

A: poured into a snifter to a deep black with a half finger dark tan head that is slow to fade to a thick collar around the glass with decent lacing
S: smells of cognac and the barrel mingle with dark roasted malt, chocolate and coffee
T: cognac flavors and wood up front with some dark fruit flavors, roast malt toward the back end with a bit of chocolate and burnt sugar, and a slight hint of coffee. swallow is more cognac, charred wood and roasted malt with some dark roasted coffee and bitter chocolate
M: full in the mouth but not quite chewy with soft but adequate carbonation
O: different from other forms of barrel aging and a nice change of pace from bourbon. The flavors play well together and the beer drinks surprisingly easy for the abv. Now I need to find my brandy eclipse to try that one in the near future because this has piqued my curiosity

The beer comes in a dark black color with a mocha brown head.

The aroma has some fruity notes, sweet cognac, chocolate and a hefty hand of alcohol on the end.

The flavor follows with dark fruit flavors, a bittersweet chocolate, roasty malt, oak bitterness, cognac sweetness. Along with a decent amount of booze on the end.

A well done beer, though a bit too boozy for me.

Thanks to Todd for sharing this one. Served in a Hill Farmstead tulip.

A - Tan foam settles to a thick collar, spotty lace, and wisps on-top. Very dark brown body with a glint of ruby transparency when held to the light.

S - This starts off extremely roasty, but as it warms some mild sweetness and spicy oak flavors come out. Lots of dark chocolate, heavily roasted malts, and light smoke. More barrel than cognac flavor.

T - The taste has a bit more baker's chocolate sweetness to it, with roasted malts and dark bread filling out the malt profile. Oak touch is mild but present, and there's negligible cognac sweetness imparted from the barrel-aging. I'm not sure I would have even guessed cognac if I were to taste this blind. Still, the base beer and oak flavors work quite well together and this is largely enjoyable.

M - Smooth, medium-full body, with moderate-to-low carbonation. Dry and roasty finish, and not much alcohol presence.

D - A surprise highlight of the evening, although barely a 'cognac' beer. To be fair, the description says 'hint of Cognac' and the barrels were probably nearly stripped of oak after 50 years. Would happily drink this one again.
