Im usually chasing down pours wherever they end up which brought me down to WF Columbus Circle

Decent beer selection just like most of the other Whole Foods locations, except this one seems like the beer is more of an afterthought as opposed to a draw for the customers

Decent growler choices, Sixpoint the day I came down, cheap prices.

Service was ok but nobody knew anything about the beer, and also thery're horrible at updating on Beermenus so call before you trek down there

Unless they have a rarity on tap, you probably wont feel like this place was worth a stop, check out the Whole Foods Bowery if you're really looking for a Whole Foods Beer spot

A very crowded, kind of cramped whole foods below street level in the Columbus circle mall. A pretty average selection for a whole foods, but it was the best option in walking distance from our hotel and I had no trouble finding a few beers to bring back to the room.

Great location at the South Western end of Central Park. They have excellent choice of 100 or more bottled beers, local & from across the US and international. They also have a small bar with craft beer taps.

Best place to stop for bottles IMO. Biggest selection in the area. They also have a good tap list and some bottles for on the premises enjoyment.

Cheers

This place is a mad house. Frenetic and high paced. The place seemed a little disjointed as the beer selection seemed to wrap around the cheese selection but at varying distances. Even though the market seemed pretty crowded the bar seemed tame (if at least in comparison). They have a pretty nice beer selection made up of locals and out of staters. The pricing was on the high end, almost to where I would prefer to shop at Beer Culture for a better atmosphere.

Staff was non existent mostly in constant restock mode it seemed.

If this was my local place I'd be happy for the selection but would be real down on everything else.

I went to the recently opened bar inside Whole Foods, "On Tap at Whole Foods". They had a decent beer selection with a few that I hadn't heard of before, and seem to focus on local beers. They also offer 2 sizes of growlers. Their draft list is available online , and seems to change pretty often. They have about 10 beers on draft, and one on cask. They have a nice little food menu with a few snacks and sandwiches. I had the pulled pork which wasn't bad.

Prices are pretty good for the city. I think they have dollar off beers for happy hour, but all the draft beers were in the $5-7 range. Oh, and they don't do tips, because they're in a whole foods?

Anyways, the inside of the bar is really mellow and there were always a few seats available at the bar or at some tables, which is a really nice contrast to the crazy crowds that go shopping after work.

From my experience at the grand opening of On Tap. Lots of special events. Ommegang pouring samples of the BPA and giving away glasses. Garret Oliver signing his new book and pouring The Companion samples. Very friendly staff that was a little green but hey opening day and all. Smiles made up for a lot.

Very big bottle selection (108) and ten taps make for a nice selection. Wine is available as well for your wine weenie friends. Food was first rate. I had the nut sampler, ricotta, and vege chili. Each was worth the price with the chili being a very good value. Beer standouts included The Companion from Brooklyn Brewery and BPA from Ommegang. The full list: Sixpoint Sweet Action, Keegans Mother's Milk, Captain Lawrence Pumpkin, Southern Tier 2X IPA, Kelso Pilsner, Ithatca Cascazilla, Defiant Muddy Creek, Greenppoint Black Duck Porter. They had problems filling my 32oz growlers but gave me 64s at the same price to compensate. OK!

Warm open environment had me and my mom relaxin' and maxin'. Yes it is a bit pricey but what do you expect from the location. Hopefully it will come down a bit and then it will be the go to spot for the area. As it is it is still a good hang and the price for pints is not all that bad. It's more the growlers that are a touch steep. Really more that anything else they are what is driving the price car. Food is limited but high quality and the folks are warm and pleasant. A good after work hang and a great after shopping wind down.

Of all the Whole Foods in Manhattan, this is probably the worst one overall. Because it is inside the horrendous-yet-impossibly-appealing Time Warner Center, this location is always outrageously crowded. Navigating it becomes an odyssey every single time.

The beer selection is not exactly worth fighting the crowds either... just a cooler with craft basics and a small shelf with single bottles.

There is Ithaca, Smuttynose, Lagunitas, Dogfish... the classics. Bomber selection is better, with vintage Goose Night Stalker, Allagash and a variety of Belgian imports. Some good singles too, such as Samichlaus and J.W. Lees' Harvest. Also Hitachino Nest XH cask, a weird brew...

They have now added a small growler station embedded in the cheese section. Four lines, nothing amazing when I visited: Andygator, Peak Organic King Crimson, Sixpoint Harbinger and a German Kolsch.

Service is pretty much nonexistent. Good luck finding a beer guy around!

So if you live in the neighborhood, I guess you'll be stopping here. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere for good beer.

I live nearby so I buy almost all of my beer here. It is a bit smaller than many Whole Foods beer sections but overall it is well stocked with good beer. I wish they got rid of all of the boring macro imports but I see people buying them all the time. I have to often bight my tongue to not tell them to try this awesome beer over here instead of Corona Light. If they did get rid of them there would be more room for awesomer beer. However, I can't complain as I can usually get Smuttynose IPA, Dogfish 90 IPA, Schneider Avenitus, Hop Rod Rye, Green Flash Imperial IPA, and much more. I really do appreciate the beer section here. A few days ago I even got into a beer conversation with a friendly stranger and helped him pick out a few good brews.

This was my first time in a Whole Food store. Very impressed by the choice of beers which may not be that extensive but really everything in here was a clear winner. Price seemed to be in line with what I am used to but again I don't shop in NY everyday. I am not sure if anybody could have helped me but there was lot of staff around. I would definitely go back for beer (as well as the food which looked great). The location is also pretty good since it is central and close to the subway station.

The Whole Foods at Columbus Circle is (not surprisingly) really really frantic and busy. Anyone and everyone browsing the mall in the Time Warner Center eventually makes their way down there, adding to the congestion.

It's quite huge though, and even with all the people, it doesn't feel claustrophobic. Grab a basket or roll out a cart and head over to the beer aisle -- or rather beer shelf. Unlike the WF off Bowery, the Columbus Circle location doesn't devote a whole room to microbrews. Instead it has a (pretty large) set of three shelves arrayed in a tryptic.

There is certainly no shortage of interesting beers. They have a number of beers I was unable to find at the Bowery location (like Ommegang's Chocolate Indulgence Stout, and Ola Dubh's Special 30 Reserve). There's also a good selection of Rogue's offerings, and a small section for lambics. All in all, it's worth a visit if you couldn't find a particular beer downtown.

My suggestion: Try the Whole Foods off bowery first, but come to this for extras. If the beer shopping doesn't work out, there's a whole host of great stores in the shopping mall to peruse.

Fortunately for me this store was located only 4 blocks from my hotel. I got off on the columbus circle subway walked across the street and was there.
Go down the escalator and you have arrived at the store, which is a huge place located in the basement. At the bottom of the escalator make a laft and around the corner is the small beer area. Although small there are some gems there. The selection at other locations is by far better, but in a crunch this could still work for you.

I picked up a few sixers to enjoy back at the hotel. The shelves with bombers are so close to the open style fridge that they stay somwhat cool too. Since its in the basement of the building there is no sunlight getting down there to the beers.

Prices are reasonable. There are so many checkout lanes here, it makes getting in and out pretty quick. I went on a saturday night and the place was packed.

I hit this Whole Foods along with the one off of Bowery as well.

Both had an equal selection of singles, bombers, and 750 mls. The prices are higher than New Beer Dist, and they had a few less items.

The good thing is there seems to be a whole foods around no matter what neighborhood you are in.

I ate a bit of sushi, grabbed some snacks and a bag of beer and headed back to the hotel. If you can not get to New Beer Dist, the local whole foods will suffice for your beer needs while in the city.

This Columbus circle WFM location, is down an escalator from the impressive entrance plaza and lobby of this modern NYC all the way location. Downstairs its huge, sprawling, glistening and a true vortex of NYC Foodie energy. The reason you are going here is for beer and its located to the left once you get down stairs. Typical good selection by NYC standards, plenty of high quality beer to be had here. Bklyn, Stone, Avery, omme, respectable Belgians and the typical dull (IMHO) offerings from GB and Germany. All the typical and wonderful WF meats, cheese, ready made foods, house wares, breads, veggies etc etc. They dont call it "Whole paycheck" for nothing so dont expect any bargains on anything. But, you tend to get what you pay for, and If you've got the $ this place serves up some great food and beer choices.
