500ml can from Costco. Bright golden pour, thin layer of white foam Sweet, grainy aroma, a tiny bit skunky. Taste is bread, sweet, wet paper. Not the greatest, but drinkable.

Appearance: golden color with excellent clarity, pours a very large white frothy head with excellent retention, and Belgian lacing on the glass.
Nose: moderate breadcrumb, graham cracker, honey, sweet, very little bit of caramel and toffee, with a nice spicy and floral jasmine hop aroma
Palate: sweet honey malt with a touch of toffee, followed by a medium low spicy and floral hop flavor. Carbonation is medium alcohol is medium bitterness is medium-low finishes just sweet with a lingering honey malt and earthy bitterness. Good quality, very unique.

poured from a 500mL can into a new glarus dimpled mug. pours bright yellow with a little over a finger of bright white foam head. bready and crackery malts on the nose when a floral scent of hops mingled in there. taste follows. malt driven with clean lager yeast and slightly earthy and floral hops. very tasty. drinks heavier as this style tends to do. medium-full mouthfeel. enough lively carbonation to make it easier drinking at 5.5%. pretty good festbier! day 20 of the beer advent calendar.

From the Costco advent calendar. I can’t even begin to describe the taste. The only word that comes to mind is nasty. Not good. Spent a month in Germany pre Covid and drank many many types of beers and they were all great. This was not. Maybe on tap it would be fine, but it smelled and tasted rotten with a nice metallic aftertaste.

Look is dark golden with a much more prominent head to it compared to beers from the Costco advent calendar so far. A lot of small bubbles persisting along the glass side.

Smell from the can is fruity and slightly spiced. Smell from the glass is malty and very metallic in an unpleasant way.

Taste is like malty iron with a hint of fruit. The aftertaste is metallic and bitter as well.

Not a big again for me.

My third from Hernbrau and all from the Kalea Calendar courtesy of Costco. Danke.
Even though I make some derisive comments driven by my susceptibility to Bavarian beer fatigue, Hernbrau and this beautiful town of Ingostat is on the Danube midway between Bavaria's two largest cities (Nurnberg and Munich.) Hernbrau produces very nice lagers. Ingostat also is where the 16th Century prince promulgated the Rules of Brewing and has, since, stunted Bavarian innovation. But that's OK. Germany is getting over it. And we will all be better for it.

Now as for Tradition... I'm starting to like the pale Looks of the Festbier (but I still resist liking that style more than a marzen... making traditional, I suppose.) Smells are mostly tame malts. Tastes are well balanced. Minerally. Light to Medium-mouthed. Almost a delight for this malt-head.

As for Overall Hugs for the followers of the Bavarian Prince, I try to give them their due. Prost !

Herrnbräu "Tradition"
50cl can coded "EXP 2024/03 13:09 1905MU". Sampled on 21 October 2023

Notes via stream of consciousness: This can was brewed by the Privatbrauerei H. Egerer in Großköllnbach. It's poured a hazy golden/orange body beneath a thumb's width of rocky white foam. Unfortunately the head retention isn't that great. The aroma is decidedly malty with sweetish bread dominating over some delicately floral hops. The taste follows although there is a bit more floral hop, and some herbal and delicately spicy notes as well within the rich, grainy and bready malt. Its moderate bitterness is just enough to hold it together and it finishes mostly dry with a touch of spiciness appearing as the malt fades. It's medium-full in body and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation. I enjoyed this but it really needs a little refinement.
